SCARED STRAIGHT
“CRIME WATCH DAILY” INVESTIGATES “CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES”

Caught on Tape: Terrified Children in a Program Praised for Preventing Juvenile Delinquency. Has it Gone Too Far?

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 25, 2016) — In a video gone viral, Judge Verda Colvin was praised everywhere for her tough love attitude on at-risk youth and her support of “Consider the Consequences,” a Bibb County, Georgia program aimed at preventing juvenile delinquency by sending kids behind bars. Now, Crime Watch Daily goes behind the scenes to show you what you didn’t see in court and the results are explosive. Crime Watch Daily sent a camera crew to get a first-hand look at what these kids experienced. Captured on camera are prisoners cursing and berating the children with one young girl repeatedly called a whore by inmates, girls ordered to clean the toilets of inmates without gloves, and children sharing cell blocks with murderers.

Crime Watch Daily sat down with Judge Colvin and Sheriff David Davis to watch this footage for the first time and both Sheriff Davis and Judge Colvin stood by the program with Judge Colvin even saying, “yes” when asked if these kids needed this treatment. “Overall, this is a good program. If there’s any type of adjustments that need to be made, we’ll certainly do it, but it doesn’t negate the good points of it and the impact that it’s making,” adds Sheriff Davis.

When Crime Watch Daily sent the footage to Bibb County, the program was put on hold and an internal investigation was launched. The program has since been altered and re-launched.

ELIZABETH SMART – Crime Watch Daily Special Correspondent Investigates Honor Code System

ELIZABETH SMART REPORTS FOR DUTY AS OUR ‘CRIME WATCH DAILY’ SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

In this Special Episode, Smart Helps Other Survivors Fight Their Way Towards Healing and Justice

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 24, 2016) — Activist Elizabeth Smart, whose harrowing survival story riveted America, joins Crime Watch Daily for a special investigation into the honor code system universities across the country have implemented that, some say, often affects their response to sexual assault allegations. Serving as a special Crime Watch Daily correspondent, Smart details the importance of sharing her story with the public telling Crime Watch Daily, “I appreciate it cause of the voice that it’s given me and I want to share this voice with other survivors.” Smart, a Brigham Young University alumna, sits down with Hailey Allen and Colleen Dietz, two former BYU students, who for the first-time on national television, share their stories of alleged sexual assault and the aftermath they say followed while enrolled at the religious university.

Oftentimes, honor codes limit where and when student activities can be conducted. As a result, many students say they hesitate in reporting sexual assaults because they fear academic retaliation if the circumstances of the assault violate these codes. In the case of Allen and Dietz, both students say they were dismayed in the pushback they claim to have received from school officials and a local church Bishop when they came forward because they had violated their school’s honor code when the alleged assaults took place. “…She said expect to be expelled,” claims Allen to Smart when asked how the University responded to her report. Dietz, who says she went directly to her Bishop to report her alleged assault, claims she was immediately explained the discipline process for violating the honor code. Crime Watch Daily’s investigation also reveals that these two stories are not isolated events. Even Utah’s Provo Police Department is beginning to question the local University’s practices. BYU has since announced the creation of a four-member Advisory Council on Campus Response to Sexual Assault in response to these allegations. When reached for further comment, BYU has also stated that they will never refer a victim of sexual assault to the honor code office for being a victim of sexual assault.

To hear more of Allen’s and Dietz’s story, tune into Crime Watch Daily tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25.
