This tragedy has really affected me. Grantsville is usually this quiet little town that you rarely hear anything about it. I know that last year one of the little girls from Grantsville was on Food Network’s Kid Baking Championship. Of course I wanted Sophie to win, but she did not. She did come close and she was great! Anyway, when I heard this happened, I had to find out what happened. Today, the information about Colin Jeffrey Haynie’s charges went public and it actually shocked me. He is charged with shooting his mother and 3 siblings. However, apparently it was not all at once. He waited for each person to come home and he shot them when they came home. His mother and sister were shot multiple times in the head, neck and chest. They specifically said he did NOT just snap. He obviously planned this. How much hate and anger can a 16-year-old teenager have to plan to kill almost his entire family. He did fight with his father, who tried to get the gun from him and thankfully he survived. His oldest brother lived in a different city attending college. Now, the dad, Colin, and brother, Danny, now have to deal with all of this themselves. In one swoop, no wife and 3 less children and it was not an accident. They will have to navigate through the criminal justice system, which is not easy for anyone. My heart really goes out to them. The funerals will be Friday and I know they have community support, which is so important. This community raised over $85,000 within like 1-2 days. That will really help with the funerals, medical bills, and money to live on while Colin recovers. I really do wish that Colin Jr. would say why, but I have a feeling it may never happen.
