Crime Watch Daily: Elizabeth Smart Discusses Contemplating Suicide During her Abduction

CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” EXCLUSIVE
ELIZABETH SMART REVEALS DETAILS ABOUT HER HARROWING ABDUCTION AND ORDEAL

In an Emotional Interview with Sexual-Assault Survivor and Victim Advocate Daisy Coleman, Elizabeth Smart Reveals Her Own Personal Struggles During Her Time in Captivity

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 13, 2017) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen special correspondent Elizabeth Smart makes a revelation about her time in captivity when she sits down with fellow sexual-assault survivor and victim advocate Daisy Coleman in an emotional and intimate interview. “For me, because I grew up in a very conservative Christian neighborhood, the first time I was raped I remember feeling devastated. I felt like it would be better to be dead than to continue living being a rape victim, being a rape survivor…I felt in that moment if there had been an easy way out, I probably would have taken it,” Smart reveals. Daisy also describes how incessant bullying impacted how she coped with her trauma. “The bullying was really intense because it didn’t just end at school…when I would go home, it would be all over the internet. These people are able to say a lot crueler of things because it’s such a dehumanized way of speaking…because you’re talking to a computer screen and not a real person, but a real person is receiving that message…a lot of things affected how I looked at myself and my idea of self-worth,” describes Coleman. “It’s so ridiculous when you see anything on the news and some people’s first comments are questions like ‘What was she wearing? What was she doing?’…It doesn’t matter. It literally doesn’t matter if you are dancing around naked completely drunk. Nobody has the right to hurt you,” adds Smart. Smart also describes the confusing experience she was subjected to after her rescue. “Nobody told me what was going on. One second I was being reunited with my parents, the next second I was being questioned, the next second, they take me up to the hospital that then they’re like, ‘Oh, take off your clothes. Oh, let’s do this kit on you.’ Nobody was really telling me anything and I remember when they were doing the rape kit, I just remember thinking, ‘What’s going on?’” To help other survivors, Daisy and her two friends, who are survivors themselves, along with her brother started a support group called “Safe Bae,” whose mission is to raise awareness about sexual assault in middle and high schools and students’ rights under Title IX.

FREE RYAN HOLLE?
“CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” INVESTIGATES HOW A CONTROVERSIAL LAW PUT A MAN BEHIND BARS

A Young Man Gave His Car Keys to His Roommate and Went to Sleep – the Next Thing He Knew, He Was in Cuffs for Murder

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 7, 2017) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen investigates how a little-known law called the Felony Murder Rule landed Ryan Holle behind bars for the murder of 18-year-old Jessica Snyder. Holle lent his car to his roommate, who, along with three acquaintances, drove to Snyder’s house and brutally killed her during a burglary. Although Holle did not plan or participate in the crime and was not present, he was charged for the same crimes as the other men, including first-degree murder. Under the Felony Murder Rule, if someone gets killed during the course of certain felonies, all participants take equal responsibility. Because Holle lent his car to the men, he was deemed a participant. “I was floored…How could I get in trouble for something? I was never at the scene of the crime,” Holle asks in a prison interview with Crime Watch Daily. Holle admits he had overheard the men talk about burglarizing Snyder’s home and their plan to knock out Snyder if she was home, but insists he never thought the plan was real. “There was no reality in my mind that this was something that could actually happen. Absolutely not,” Holle admits. Prosecutors argue that in addition to hearing about their plan, Holle even let the men borrow bandanas. “He knew when they left the house with his car that they were going to use it to commit a burglary – and also if Jessica was there, she might be harmed,” argues former Prosecutor David Rimmer.

“CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” EXCLUSIVE JAILHOUSE SIT-DOWN WITH GRANDMOTHER WHO
PULLED THE TRIGGER ON HER EX-DAUGHTER-IN-LAW

Hear Why a Grandmother and Her Police Officer Grandson Unleashed a Bloodbath in a Mall Parking Lot

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 30, 2017) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen goes behind bars for an exclusive sit-down interview at the Charles County Sheriff’s Office jail with Caroline Conway, who, along with her police officer son Richard Conway, is serving life in prison for the death of Robert Mange and the attempted murder of his newlywed pregnant wife Krystal Mange. Caroline claims she shot Robert and her ex-daughter-in-law Krystal, who was seven months pregnant at the time, over molestation claims made by her young grandson while he was staying with Krystal and Robert. The Virginia Department of Social Services fully dismissed the allegations made by Caroline’s grandson after an investigation, but Caroline still believes they were abused “because my grandson told me.” Crime Watch Daily caught up with Montanah Christianson, one of the people who Caroline alleges abused her grandson. He dismissed the allegations, telling our cameras, “I would never lay a hand on a child like that. That is ridiculous.” Caroline also claims to not remember shooting Robert and her ex-daughter-in-law Krystal. “I know they said it happened and I know evidence says that I did it, but I don’t remember it.”

“CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” PRISON PHONE INTERVIEW
WITH INFAMOUS ‘SELFIE KILLER’

After She Stabbed Her Father-in-Law 31 Times, Amanda Taylor Took a Selfie With His Dead Body

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 17, 2017) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen investigates the brutal murder of Charles Taylor with a prison phone interview with “Selfie Killer” Amanda Taylor, who reveals gruesome details about her father-in-law Charles Taylor’s killing. Taylor says that she doesn’t have any remorse for Charles’ death and says killing him felt like her “first roller-coaster ride because of all the nerves and feeling like freedom.” After stabbing Charles 31 times, Taylor snapped a selfie with his body, telling Crime Watch Daily, “I was just really excited and I was like, ‘Hey, I’m going to take a picture so I can post it and show everyone.’ It was just something, I, it made me really happy.” Taylor also shot her accomplice Sean Ball while they were on the run from police. She claims that she “wasn’t trying to kill him” when she shot him in the face, however. In a bizarre twist, Taylor also reveals her fascination with ISIS, but maintains that she was not trying to actively join them even though she reached out to suspected members on social media. “I was just very interested in it. Just the whole way they work and what they stand for,” she explains. Taylor is currently serving life in prison for first-degree murder, while Ball is serving a 60-year prison sentence that is suspended after 41 years after accepting a plea deal for first-degree murder.

Crime Watch Daily: Should Daniel Holtzclaw get a new trial?

SHOULD DANIEL HOLTZCLAW GET A NEW TRIAL?
“CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” INVESTIGATES WITH SPECIAL GUEST NANCY GRACE

Special Episode Explores the Headline-Making Case That Shook the Nation

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 27, 2017) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen is devoting a special in-depth episode to the headline-making case of Daniel Holtzclaw, a former Oklahoma City police officer who was sentenced to 263 years in prison for 18 counts related to sexual assault, including rape. Prosecutors argue that Holtzclaw is a predator who used the power of his badge to prey on poor women of color who likely wouldn’t report their assaults. Holtzclaw’s defense attorneys argue that Holtzclaw did not receive a fair trial. Some of their arguments include: First, the prosecution made what the defense says was a grievous error in their misrepresentation of the DNA found on Holtzclaw’s pants; Second, the jury failed to look at each count against Holtzclaw separately; Third, the circus atmosphere during the trial denied him the right to a fair trial; Fourth, his sentence is excessive and unconstitutional. In this special episode of Crime Watch Daily, famed television host Nancy Grace joins Chris Hansen as a special contributor to dissect the Holtzclaw case.

SUSPECTED KILLER ON THE RUN
“CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” INVESTIGATES

Suspected Killer on the Run Takes Alleged Teen Lover With Him

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (December 15, 2016) — Shortly after authorities spoke to John Blauvelt regarding the brutal murder of his wife, Cati Blauvelt, he went on the run, taking 17-year-old Hannah Thompson with him. For the first time on camera, Cati’s mom, Patricia Piver, reveals the pain of losing her daughter to a violent death, telling Crime Watch Daily’s Jason Mattera, “In the mortuary the man told us it took them five hours to fix her up to make her look presentable and it still didn’t look like her…just imagining what she must have been going through, the pain, what she must have been screaming for him to stop.” Because of Blauvelt’s alleged violent history, cops were worried that he could have harmed Thompson, telling Crime Watch Daily, “We want Hannah returned home safely. That’s our number one priority, and the capture, the safe capture of John Blauvelt.” In an exclusive interview with Crime Watch Daily, Thompson’s mother, Kristi Thompson, expresses the family’s horror over her young daughter being with a man 11 years her senior, saying, “My husband lost it when he heard…I mean he wanted to go to John’s house and confront him.” Hannah Thompson has been found safe in Oregon, but authorities have not released any details of circumstances surrounding her whereabouts over the last month.

DRUNK DOCTOR? “CRIME WATCH DAILY WITH CHRIS HANSEN” INVESTIGATES A DOCTOR ACCUSED OF DELIVERING A BABY WHILE INTOXICATED

cwd-chris-hansen

Caught on Tape! One Family Claims an Intoxicated Doctor Caused Permanent Nerve Damage to Their Son

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (November 30, 2016) — Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen investigates Dr. Frank DeLee who, the Sims family claims, was intoxicated when he delivered their baby after talking about drinking, and caused permanent nerve damage to his arm. The birth of Jared Sims was recorded on a cellphone video where the doctor, who was allegedly barefoot and in shorts, can be heard saying, “We were at Tommy Bahama’s” and telling nurses that he had to pour out his tequila to attend the delivery. “When he passed by…I said, ‘Ohhh, I smell alcohol’,” claims the baby’s grandmother, Sheree Crenshaw-Sims. “The nerves in Jared’s right side were stretched out when he was coming out of the birth canal from the way he was pulled…It caused nerve damage in his right side. He has limited mobility, range of motion,” alleges his mother, Alexandria Sims. Crime Watch Daily correspondent Ana Garcia catches up with Dr. DeLee, who says, “If you see the whole tape you’ll see a different story.” The Sims family is suing the doctor, delivery room nurses, and hospital for malpractice and negligence. The hospital and Dr. DeLee deny their allegations and counter-claim that Alexandria is to blame, citing “negligence and carelessness” by “fail[ing] to mitigate the damages” in her own care for the infant and “assumed risks” involved in childbirth.
