I strongly agree with you. This is the most henious crime I have ever read about and it made me sick to my stomach to read the barbaric details of this brutal murder. Finally, FINALLY, there has been mention of this case on a national level.
I had e-mailed several independant journalists, asking why nobody in the national media has the nuts to talk about this case. It is obvious why, because its not politically correct to report on black-on-white hate crimes.
Thank you Michael Savage for having the courage to not only mention the case on your nationally syndicated news talk show, but going that extra mile and questioning the media in general for their lack of mention of this story, and for pointing out why they avoid it. For the above mentioned reason.

Michael Savage mentions the case approx 11-12 minutes in the second hour. It’s brief, though, and he got the details wrong. He didn’t mention their names, either.

I only found out about this case today because someone sent it in an email to me. This is an outrage that the media tried to sweep this under the rug. I even searched Court TV web site and found only a small mention of it. If you were not searching for it you would not have seen any mention of it.
I have forwarded that email to everyone I know and will search more on the web for information about this case.

I agree that this was a gruesome, heinous, horrific act of violence. I also agree that this should be widely publicized. The death penalty should be sought or better yet what happened to their victims, Christoper and Channon should be done to them ten-fold.
However, I need for people to understand that there are good, decent black people in this country. Most of them do not believe Sharpton/Jackson represent them nor do they excuse these crimes. This crime could have just as easily been committed on two decent black folks. This may have been racist or could have just been these two young people happened into this area while these scum were looking for prey.
I am black and I am totally sickened by this crime. These people should get what they deserve and then some. I have read this story and cried, stomach in knots, choked up but all black people are not responsible for what happened here just as all white people who commit crimes aganst blacks don’t repesent all white people.

I am a police officer. This is one of the most horrific stories I’ve ever heard of. It just makes me sick. My heart goes out to the poor parents and family. It makes me sick to even imagine what these poor kids went through before they were brutally murdered. This is a prime example of reverse discrimination. The family should seek the death penalty on these low lifes but, their punishment would be over to quick. To the victim’s family, God Bless and Stay Strong.

Well, first off. these people got no business going where they did not belong. Ok, I’m a white man. yes White. but i understand and respect the territories of my African American Brothers. I just don’t cross it. I don’t drive in their neighborhoods at night, it just doesn’t happen. I’m not excusing this crime but just saying they got it coming to them.
I think we white people like to be too sensitive when this sort of things happen to us. what about the countless of African Americans we mutilated and murdered in this same manner if not worse. remember Emit Till, he was only 12 yrs old. what justice was taken on his behalf? and what about the thousands of African Americans we continuously lynched and burned over decades. what media covered those stories? how many documentaries where made to venerate them? so please, stop being hypocritical and look at it at just a crime. In a way, you are right. White people murdered countless black people in brutal ways, but that was a long time ago. The fact that they were in their “territory” does not make this ok. It’s the same thing as white people telling black people to get over slavery. Whether this was a hate crime or just five people who brutally murdered two innocent people for kicks, it never should have happened. Even if this was five white people on two black people. No matter who committed a crime like this, they should be put to death. There is no excuse for it.

The reason why I am writing this letter is to discuss an unjust in the media world.
Here is the story:
This past Monday, Eliott from “Eliott In The Morning,” based out of Washington, DC. spoke about a story out of Knoxville, TN. When he read the story, I was so shocked and appalled at the severity of the crime. The link to the story is posted below:

After reading this, you can see my concern. After doing some research and finding out as much info as I could, I was horrified that something like this could have happened and yet it has only been covered locally.
Now, I am mixed black male and I am by no way racist nor biased, because the public should know what happens in the public. But the problem is, why is it that whenever a Caucasian person commits a crime against a particular race, especially black, that it takes no more than a few hours to have it circulate the world if it is a major issue. When it comes to Caucasians as victims, you don’t necessarily hear anything about it, especially if the crime is as severe as this one.
Now, why is it, that the USA Today, can put the faces of black African Americans on the FRONT page to tell about all kinds of crimes, but something as severe as this one, it is kept under wraps.
The worst part about this story was told today on his show. Now, this is the most appalling thing i have heard and it goes as follows:

So, in lieu of the vigil for the 2 victims, a certain group of African Americans are constructing this “celebration.”
Now you might be wondering why I am telling you all this, but it is NOT to bring out the worst in people, but to show how the media, race, and violence of this nature should be addressed. Furthermore, I am ASHAMED of being black to think that a group of people would actually celebrate a death like this because they feel they are not privileged. I know that the KKK would celebrate or whatever, but think about it. It all boils down to this group vs. this group. And it is sick.
I’d like for you to please voice the outrage in regards to this story and please have your listeners explain to me as to why things like this get swept under the rug. It was mentioned on Court TVs website, but nothing else.
For the last portion of this email, I would like to say:
“Why is it that when it comes to lesser crimes, the media will portray African Americans in the broad spectrum of light, but when it comes to something as serious like this, why keep it under wraps.”
BTW, the Washington Post has stated that they couldn’t send an investigator reporter to the area to inquire about the story, because “they didn’t have anyone down there.” You would think that the Washington Post would have had more sense than to say something like that. Am I right?
In closing, I just want to say, thank you for all that you bring to the community and would to tip my hat off to you all and let you know that even if you don’t put this on the air, I know that at least you hear from a good fan of your show and that is all that matters.

Who is this “we” you are referring to with respect to mutilating and murdering Black folk? I’m white (have my doubts bout you, tho), but none of my ancestors were anywhere near this country during the times of slavery. As someone who is both black and works in the media I have to say, I’m surprised that even I hadn’t heard about this crime. But honestly, there are enough negative reports on blacks, whites, hispanics (so forth and so on) to go around on tv and in print journalism. I think this story just wasn’t reported on because sometimes members of the media actually do pass on certain stories (usually ones that involve sex crimes…especially when they are comitted against a male).
I think the outrage is that this happened at all. It’s tough to think that human beings…regardless of their race…would committ a crime like this.
I don’t know what delivering a story like this to the masses proves. Does it prove that “yes, we do report negative stories involving blacks?” Well, we already know that is the case. What’s important is that the killers were caught and all are facing charges that will likely send them to death or life in prison. Justice is what matters, not whether some stay at home mother in Arkansas heard about it.

From what I have read, Channon and Chris were at the wrong place at the wrong time. I live in Los Angeles, which has some of the most dangerous areas in the US. to omsk99: Conventional wisdom should tell us all to watch our backs in any area at any time. I only grew up in gated communities and only attended the top schools in the nation. My first exposure to city life was when I attended college in Philidelphia and later in Washington DC…now I live in NYC.
I’ve seen a lot of terrible things from the suburbs, to rural areas and of course in cities from all races, all ages, etc, etc.
The truth is that this is a violent country. You could be at school in middle America (Littleton, CO – Virginia Tech) minding your own business and get killed for no particular reason other than someone decided it was your time to go. You could be at work in middle America trying to make a living when someone decides to make that day your last (Oklahoma Federal building bombing).
Evil inhabits people…not a race, not a class, not even a neighborhood.

Yes, I have heard of the Carr Brothers and know basically what they did. It was a home invasion where they made all 5 people strip. The 2 women were raped and the men were beat. Then they made them committ sex acts on each other. Then they were robbed and killed. I will be making on a post on it here soon. By the way, it has been mentioned in the comments before. MyLifeoCrime: I’m not picking one over the other, or trivializing either. both are horrible crimes commited by the lowest in society. However, the fact is that when that case was going on most of America/the world never heard of it. It was exactly the same media coverage (none). Personally, i could live with the fact of not hearing about it, but knowing they caught these bastards and they get whats coming to them.
A: First off serial killers are few and far between, not that it makes it right because their just as f’ed up in the head as these idiots. I read MS-NBC’s Crime and Punishment section every day. The story your talking about was on there and it turns ones stomach and makes you want to puke. Horrible, the absolute worst, no doubt. Theres a major problem in this country where loopholes in the system let these sicko’s out. Believe it or not their all around your neighborhood. Here, we have a Sheriffs report that notifies me be E-mail when one comes within a mile of where we live. Theres easily 18-20 at any one given time. Infact, we just had one move in for sexual battery on a child about 3 blocks from here this week. Why is he out of prison? And if your thinking i live in a bad neighborhood, or their not around you, your wrong people. Earlier in the week i caught the Channon/Chris story on MSN, not about the case, but about how the media covered it. Before that there was NOTHING mentioned because i would have seen it. There’s Black serial killers too, how bout the Atlanta Child Killings and the DC snipers? Myself, when it comes to crimes against children, I think the family should get to “legally” inflict any punishment they see fit to these people. Black, white green or brown, it doesn’t matter. Please examine the percentage of blacks in jail, the crimes commited by blacks, the large numer of blacks that inhabit crack houses- I could go on forever. Here is something that has been bothering me for awhile about crimes such as this, when the attackers and victims are reversed (white on black) Jackson, Sharpton, and the NAACP are the first and loudest to cry Racist hate crime. When it is as this case is (black on white) not one word from them. How many militant blacks out there percieve this to mean it is a right and acceptable form of action. Why don’t these groups stand up and denounce this type of activity. the only thing I ever hear is how the black community has been wronged again. I wish they would take a more proactive stance concerning black youth and the acts of violence alot of them commit. I agree that the NAACP is a worthy organization and has accomplished countless nessasary changes in regard to society. However I do not understand ( and again this is my perception) why you never see or hear of anything being done by this organization that is not a reaction to a percieved wrong by the white community. I would take the time to listen to what these people have to say again, if only they would begin to do something about the problems between blacks and whites other than pointing out how the white community has harmed the black community again. The NAACP, Jackson, and Sharpton have helped bring about tremendous change in this country, now it’s time for them to take the next step and begin to admit that alot of the problems we face today are a direct result of the black community. Begin to address these problems and one day you may again have this white mans respect. Until that day I will continue to classify you as the racist people and organization you have become.

Once upon a time there was 3 very bad men who were on a crime spree just before commiting the crime that made them famous. There was a number of theft and robbery crimes involving businesses and purse snatching (which btw was outside their territory). Then they decided to bust in on a single black mother and her 13 year old son who was entertaining a couple of his friends (evidently they were asking for it since she did live in their territory). These men were aggressively driven to enter this home of defenseless people by kicking and shooting repeatedly at the door. The news reported that the men managed to make it to the single mother’s bedroom where they began working on that door next. Fortunatly, the mother was in the company of a male friend with a gun. He shot back and the perps fled probably sparing the mother being raped and murdered. Then the story goes on to some more theft and robbery but things get slow. Then on January 7th, these same three men guilty of terrorizing countless people, decide to “go get some money”. Their eye is caught by an SUV and soon a couple of easy targets coming out of the housing there. A young Chris and Channnon were taken and bound by gun point. Somewhere along the way, the defenselessness of the privilaged white couple became far more exciting than the shiny SUV they were riding in. Upon reaching the second location of the crime, first thing is first. The perps could hardly contain themselves when they began abusing Chris. They had to emasculate him right away by each of them, and a female who just joined the party, raping him anally. They became high on his fear and humiliation. Who knows if this was before or after the beatings afflicted on the bound Chris Newsom. Very likely the beatings took place before and after. Finally, Chris was shot 3 times, his body wrapped in bedding, dumped and set afire. Maybe after or perhaps at the same time of Chris’ torturous rape and beatings, a surely mortified Channon faced her own humilation and pain of sexual and physical torture. All four perps, this including the female, took great joy in dehumanizing Channon with vaginal, anal and oral rape, all the while beating her. These callused acts of depravity continued on for hours. Finally, she took her last breath before she was strangled to death by the last to see her alive. And for the parents family and friends (who btw were not in the perps territory) her body was dismembered and thrown away in a trash recepticle like worthless junk. Here after, the families’ can have that memory and that of Chris’ body discarded and set afire. More than that though, they can imagine their children with whom they took great care to love and raise, whom they read to and splashed with at bath time, whom they guided and instructed, for whom they smiled with joy at their excitment each Christmas and birthday, in whom they invested their lives, they can imagine their precious children being humiliated, violated in the worst sense, screaming in agony and pain, quite possibly for their mom and dads. But, while the perps continued on in their crime of theft and robbery (outside their territory), just days after the murders and prior to their arrests, the families could at least have the releif of knowing that their children were not complete victims. After all, two church going, fun loving youths, with no experience with drugs or the evil side of the tracks should know better than to go watch movies at a friends home in the “territory” of criminals they weren’t aware existed. For an example, if Daug were kidnapped, anally gang raped by three men and a female, beaten and psycologically tortured for hours before being shot, he would know he was asking for it. I mean come on, he has been excercising American freedom just as the vics were. Not much difference really. The victims’s had the American freedom to drive down a Tennessee road that connected them to a friend’s home in which they did. Daug has the freedom to write senseless and insensitive garbage on this board for all to see, in which he has done. I’m sure that we’d all feel bad for Daug if this same crime happened to him but let’s face it, even he knows he’s asking for it.

In my own City there was a crime very similar to this with less torture–same death, execution style, for a carjack–never got big national either. Makes me fn sick. I’ll never forget their names–Jason and Amy.

I live in Knoxville and a lot of what is being said is Wrong! These kids were NOT in the black neighborhood. They were abducted from an apartment complex near a major mall. These thugs were actually OUT of their f’n “territory”. I live near this mall area, and believe me, they better go back to their “hood, because everybody here now is getting armed.

The Al Sharpton comment is true, and that is why I DO NOT support Al or Jesse Jackson. I am a black woman, and I feel if they don’t defend EVERY race equally, especially when someone is brutally murdered, then I can not in good faith support them. Although I never met Channon, she was still my “sister”. (my fellow woman, sisterhood) I don’t care what color she was, it will never matter.
Some of you, no doubt, will make this a race issue, and thats ok. I’m not gonna bite. Channon and Chris were taken from us by horrible people, doesn’t matter what color their skin is. Would their murder be less significant had white people did it? I am a very light-skinned black woman. Who’s to say that could not have been me? Would that make the case any less important, because I’m black? I’m sure there are some of you on this post who WISHED slavery was still in, but I’m here to tell you it is a thing of the past. (sorry) Let’s stop focusing on race, and focus on how we can all live in harmony. No one race is any better than the other.

These murders are so sick and disgusting it is beyond comprehension for even your run-of-the-mill mitigated murderer to understand. If I could get these guys in a room to ask them questions, Id start with…”why ?”. Why would you do this to a fellow human being ? Does it excite them to watch others suffer horrendously like that ? Normal people feel empathy for others who suffer – these freaks, get off on it. It defies comprehension. The sickest part of it all is the sexual stuff. In the case of the Carr brothers, they made the two girls perform oral sex on each other, and made each guy have sex with each girl. Can you imagine, the humiliation and embarrassment, of being forced to have sex at gunpoint, in front of everybody, with someone who you were platonic friends with ? Imagine just for a second, what that must have been like for them during the act – it’s incomprehensible. Imagine looking at your friend, starting to have sex with them at gunpoint, and wondering what each of you are thinking at the time – the depravity and sickness of this is just beyond humanity. The death penalty is just too good for these cockroaches – they seriously deserve eye for an eye justice. They should be forced at gunpoint to have anal sex with each other, while people watch, with popcorn – like they did to their victims. After that happens to you – youd probably be better off dead because the psychological ramifications would turn you into a nut case, I know it would for me anyway. And the thing is, that these cockroaches really do not care what happens to them in life – they must have known that chances are they would get caught, and they just dont care. They really will end up not being punished at all for ther crimes, because they dont care about being killed – there is no way to punish people like this, unless you torture them. How do you punish someone who doesnt really care if they get the death penalty ? The only way is to give them life – with known rapists who will make them live as their biatch in jail for the rest of their lives. That maybe, would be a small dose of what they dished out. It saddens me to be a human being, to know that my species is capable of this kind of behavior.

BTW – These crimes are so horrendous that they transcend race – they are violations of humanity, and people should be offended as human beings, not blacks or whites. When the crime inquestion is so atrocious as these are, race doesnt even matter – they are crimes against humanity. The stuff done in these crimes, rivals what Josef Mengele did at Auchwitz.
I think the reason these freaks chose whites is not hatred for white people, but because they get off on maximum fear – and they know that its a lot more enjoyable to do this to whites, because whites fear blacks – justifiably when it comes to statistics and crime. Ask any white person to describe their greatest crime fear scenario – and it will involve blacks. These freaks chose whites because they wanted maximum fear to get off on. To see the fear in the faces of some whities, at the hands of a group of blacks – turned these cockroaches on. They wouldnt have been as satisfied doing it to other blacks.

Really though – I dont think the crimes here were perpetrated against whites for hatred of whites. Whites were chosen because white people fear black criminals more so than white criminals – justified or not. These freaks wanted to get off on maximum fear, and choosing white victims fit the bill. But like I said earlier – these crimes are so horrendous that they transcend race, they are crimes against humanity, and human beings should be offended as human beings, not blacks or whites.

One of the Carr brothers was applying Chapstick while the verdict was being read. Nice…this guy is being sentenced to death, and his primary concern is chapped lips. Hopeully the reason for this, was because he was subject to ruthless beatings if his lips werent soft – such that he didn’t create discomfort for his master back in the cell. Where do cockroaches like this come from ? On TV, they showed pictures of the two brothers as children, and it really disturbed me. Where did they learn this ? Where did it all go wrong ? They were two cute kids, and there was no possile way anybody could have known about the evil they possessed. What’s a society to do ?

AMen sisters! I am Native American, my granddaughter is 1/4 Mexican, and we have white ancestry as well. I have worked in corrections, and while there were a prponderance of Black men in jail, I also know that many of the white men who committed the same crimes were out on bail right away, or never were incarcerated to begin with. A white singer who was arrested for using cocaine was given probation; a black youth usually isn’t. There is a misconception that racism is over in this country. It isn’t. I find it sad that there is such fear in this country, and that people feel the need to go around armed. The one time I was punched, I had two deputies with me, and it was a white woman! And the one serial killer I knew was white.
Cockroaches come in all colors, both sexes. Don’t lower yourselves by making racist comments and lumping all people together under one general umbrella.
