Sgt. Stephen Anderson murder 6/25/2007 Salt Lake City, UT *Correctional Officer killed by inmate once named Public Enemy Number One*

stephen-anderson.jpgUtah State inmate, Curtis Allgier, shot and killed State Corrections Officer Stephen Anderson while at a medical appointment at the University of Utah Medical Center. Allgier was putting his clothes back on after a MRI for a back problem. He got the officer’s gun from him and shot him with his own weapon. He then fled the clinic on foot until he carjacked a Ford Explorer and went on a car chase with police, with speeds going over 100 mph. After going on this car chase, he crashed into an Arby’s Restaurant. He went inside Arby’s, waving the gun around and told the other customers to lie down on the ground. Two people tried to tackle him and take away the gun. He pointed it at them, fired, but the gun malfunctioned (thank goodness!). However, then another customer got the gun from him after a small struggle, and then held him until police got there and arrested him.

The victim, 60 year old Stephen Anderson, was a 22 year veteran of the Corrections Department, a man who loved his job and could have retired 2 years ago.

Stephen Anderson leaves behind a wife of 36 years, five married children, and 16 grandchildren.A spokesman for Stephen Anderson’s family made a statement for reporters. Mark Anderson, Stephen Anderson’s cousin, said, “I don’t know any better way to describe Steve than just being a caring, gentle man. He loved what he did at the prison. He was very good. Warden Turley told us about the work that he did at the prison and the lives that he touched while he was there

After shooting Sgt. Anderson, Allgier called a friend, Trisha Tower, and made a confession.

Trisha Tower says, “He’s the sweetest person. Every time I’ve seen him, he’s the sweetest person. He will be there to protect somebody and help somebody.”

A normal person would think that she was not aware of his background or criminal history. But she is. He lived with her while he was on parole, until he took off his ankle monitor and ran. (this was in 2006) He was then named “Public Enemy Number One”, and finally caught and sent back to prison.curtisallgier.jpg

Back in prison, Allgier and Tower wrote letters. This morning Tower got an unexpected phone call from him along with a confession. “Curtis had called me and told me he had killed a cop, that he had escaped. I asked him what had happened. He told me that he was sorry, that he loved me and he just kept saying, ‘Sorry, I love you,'” Tower said. But Allgier has a history of burglary, forgery and carrying weapons. Authorities also say he’s a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Tower says, Allgier calls himself “Aryan God,” but he isn’t in a gang.“He does believe in whites being with whites, and he might take it to the extreme sometimes, but he’s nice, not affiliated with any groups or cliques or anything like that. He’s his own,” Tower told us.Tower says her heart goes out to the family of the corrections officer who was killed, but she wants people to keep an open mind. “Nobody knows what happened in that room to turn it the way he did,” she said.

It appears to me that she is trying to blame the victim for getting killed, which is something I detest. However, other reports say that the killing was revenge for his friend, William Maw, who was shot and killed by Ogden police after he threatned them with a gun.

In October, an acquaintance who didn’t want to be identified says she met Curtis Allgier through a friend. At the time, Allgier was on parole. Something he said that day still haunts her. “Part of his parole was that he could not go up north into Davis County or in Ogden, because while he was incarcerated, he had said that he was going to kill a cop,” she says.

This article gives some details on those threats and this article gives details on other threats made by Allgier to Tooele County Officers. It is obvious that he hates law enforcement and was a cop killer just waiting to bloom.

Curtis Allgier is being held on several felonies in the Salt Lake County jail:

I know that the investigation is “ongoing”, and he should be appearing in court soon. My bet: death penalty! The last time we had an incident like this here in Salt Lake City, it was Ronnie Lee Gardner, who currently sits on death row, playing with the criminal justice system, trying to delay his sentence every chance he gets.

  3. I think the warden, and the director of corrections should not only be sued but criminally prosecuted. I have been in law enforcement my entire life and you don’t transport felons with one officer. This death could have been avoided if they would have spent $80 bucks in overtime for another officer.

  6. I personally know trisha tower. I feel bad she is going throught his right now. She has to young children and is a single mother, however i feel strongly that life is what you make it to be. She chose to associate with those sorts of people. This is not her first time in jail, nor will it be the last. She has a history of her own. I hope and pray daily that maybe this can open her eyes and she can get some help too. As for Allgier, may he rest in Hell. That is where someone like him belongs. He doesn’t deserve death for his crimes, he shouldn’t be a martyr. What he deserves is to rot in a prison cell until the day God feels he is done.

  8. Cowboy,
Sorry but I couldn’t think of justifying this with ‘im sure he had a reason for doing it’. I think the ink on his head seeped into his brain and he is just stupid. He had no reason to shot the correctional officer. It was not Mr. Anderson fault that he was in prison.
    God bless the Anderson family.

  9. I AM CURTIS’ EX WIFE AND I THINK OUT OF EVERYONE WHO KNOWS HIM, I KNOW HIM THE BEST. I KNOW WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH HIS HEAD AND I KNOW CLOSEST TO HOW HE FEELS. I WILL TAKE ALL THIS TO MY GRAVE. NO ONE ELSE DESERVES TO UNDERSTAND. IF YOU PEOPLE ARE WRITING AT WORK THAN MAYBE YOU SHOULD BE WORKING. IF YOU PEOPLE ARE AT HOME, GET A LIFE. OR DO YOU LOVE TO FOCUS ON HIM? NOBODY KNOWS HIM OR WHAT HE WAS THINKING EXCEPT FOR ME. AND WE’LL NEVER TELL…

    • you realy do sound stupid girl i’ll tell ya i’m no angel but i do have morels and would never consider killing anyone for any reason.if you knew what he was thinking about doing and diddnt speak up mabey you should be charged as an accessory to the officers death

  10. Jolene,
Boy do you sound stupid. So if you knew “what he was thinking” and didn’t tell anyone, you should really be ashamed of yourself. So, basically what your saying is you condone cold-blooded murder. Do we think your “special” because you knew what was going on and did nothing to try and help stop it? No. I think the word STUPID is a better description.

  11. Jolene,

In the interview he did on tv, he BLAMED THE VICTIM. We don’t need to know what he was thinking.

And I am sure that your comments will help him out in court, won’t they? You want to defend a murderer and have excuses for him. That shows your quality of character.

  12. I know noone was in that room but Curtis and the man who died, they only hold the truth. I know if I was in that situation I may of tried to escape also, and I also know if a man in that frame of mind at the moment was high on adreline, and had my gun, hell no am I going to fight or try to stop him, not worth my life, he can run. So both parties had led to a sad ending.

  13. First of all Jolene… you left him high and dry… you don’t know how he feels, it’s not my business nor anyone elses about that. Anyway Curtis is very sweet and I give him so much respect for having the courage to make his beliefs known. EVERY single person has been criticized in their life about something, religion, race, sex, whatever. Curtis puts it all out there for EVERYONE to see it that takes a whole hell of alot of guts, that I rarely see anyone else have. Most of you probably wish you could do something as bold as this and not be judged, so before you keep judging him on the outside, know him on the inside. He has alot of pride, GO GET SOME!~

    note from blog owner

    Melanie,

This is not the place for this stuff. This is a place for justice and the VICTIM. And Curtis is NOT the victim. And your statements about Curtis taking pride in murdering someone is just plain OFFENSIVE. Think about if it was YOUR loved one who was murdered. Would you want to hear about how proud the murderer was? It stops here NOW on my blog.

Let me be bold and put out there for you that he does not have guts, he is a worthless piece of fly poop. He took the life of a good man who was doing his job and for you to get on here and tell people to go get some pride is really childish of you.
You need to go and get some compassion, thoughtfulness and love for others instead of giving respect to a man who deserves NOTHING, not even air.

First of all, ladies, please don’t start fighting over this MURDERING asshole. “Curtis is very sweet”? Ok. How can he take pride in what he did? I’m confused, can one of you please explain that to me? This guy killed an innocent man who was just doing his job. Feel sorry for Curtis, NEVER!
    God bless Sgt. Stephen Anderson.

  16. Oh yeah, fornately his “boldness” got him right where he needs to be. His sorry ass is on LOCK DOWN. And I hope they fry his ass for what he did. Wonder how you 2 “Melanies” would feel if that were your father he did that too. No need to answer, we already know.

  17. First of all I was referring to his TATTOOS as his boldness, not that he “might” have killed the officer. He has NOT been found guilty of a crime yet. He is being held as a suspect. I NEVER said he took pride in what he did because only two people know what really happened in that room. I never said I didn’t feel bad for the officer, I do I feel extremely bad that someone lost their life. I ask you though would this be as publicized and spoken about so frequently if it wasn’t for his outward appearance, no I don’t think so. My point was about the way he looks since that was what the first two posts were about. I do not know the other Melanie, but I do agree with her in that no one but those two know what happened in the room. Shauncey, I don’t know my father, never have he has more important things to do than to take care of his family. I understand someone died doing their job and like I said I do apologize, but since he hasn’t been convicted of the crime how can you start out a major blog with: Utah State inmate, Curtis Allgier, shot and killed State Corrections Officer Stephen Anderson while at a medical appointment at the University of Utah Medical Center. Shouldn’t the word ALLEGEDLY be in there?

    Like

    • You think his tattoos are bold? Are brave? Not ironic at all… he’s a white supremest who has covered his supposedly supreme white skin in black ink… that isn’t exactly thought out is it that’s not a man whose strong in his convictions or ideals that’s an uneducated little boy hiding distracting us from who he really is by spewing hate. It’s pathetic. He took another mans life and people wanna say you weren’t in the room? Exactly and no one else was either so what the officer killed himself? And in the end he tried to take another mans life hes an animal he’s not capable of functioning in our society he’s too selfish he believed his life his freedom was more important then two men and based on his history his needs are more important then anyone else’s too. So tell me again how bold you think he is. Cause the idea this man being proud or bold makes me laugh.
