Beyond tragic, it is hard for most people to understand what makes someone kill for no apparent reason. It is certainly beyond me.
This story hit me particularly close to home because I knew one of the victims (Selby), and had only a brief introduction to another (Julie) before they moved to Maine, from San Francisco. I attended their memorial service, and can’t describe the heartbreak that Selby’s children endured and no doubt continue to endure. Crimes like this go beyond the victim and harm the victim’s family, and entire community.
