Interesting, she studied in Havana, Cuba. She visited Egypt, Ecuador, and Ghana. Why did she go to those countries and what did she do there. I wonder what her religion was. She was shot several times. Usually means a crime of passion.

Are these killing related to what happened in Ecuador this week. Eve had been to Egypt, Ecuador, Ghana, and Cuba recently. Is it possible that she was a CIA agent. Ghana is a close ally of Cuba and has tried to lift sanction on them. Is it possible that she aided in the location of the Farc leadership in Ecuador with her travels. Ecuador, Venzuela, Cuba and a few other latin countries have sung far to the left in the last five years. Could this be the start of a good conspiracy theory.

This was likely a random act. A car-jacking gone bad. It’s a senseless, tragic event and a rarity for this small community. We are all shocked and dismayed over the loss of such a wonderful and promising figure. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

So sad! One must wonder, given the very close proximity of Eve’s house to the local homeless shelter, whether a transient is responsible. After all, downtown Chapel Hill is a bastion of transients and the mayor has no backbone to stop it.

I hope they catch the person. It seems to me that it was either a random act or something to do with someone who felt like they had a lot to lose by her living, e.g. affair with a married person or something else. No matter the cause; it’s still very tragic.

Both Eve Carson and Lauren Burk, the Auburn murder victim, were too joyful, young and naïve to possibly realize the danger: Young white women are being stalked and slaughtered nightly by primitive, sub-human jungle predators. As of 12/31/06 from the US Bureau of Prisons report on the males in prisons and jails, using the ratio per 100,000 males in the US population of whites, Hispanics, and blacks the Hispanic is 3 times that of whites and the blacks is 7 times that of whites. Sounds like white “racists” are making the arrests, prosecuting, judging, sitting on juries, and making the report.

Wow, sometimes when a tragedy happens, people really show their true colors. I can’t believe the disgusting and racist things that have been said on this blog, and I’m white. There are a lot of problems in our society, but they can be minimized if we work together to make things better. There are people of all races, sexes, and ages that die every day from violent crimes, and these crimes are committed by all types of people.
I know the statistics for violent crimes are higher for blacks/minorities/less educated people. But I also know that blacks get much longer sentences for drug crimes than white people, so I think it’s true that the court systems aren’t fair when it comes to drug convictions.
I think more sensible gun laws, free parenting classes, better schools, more police, and decreasing drug abuse would help reduce the amount of these horrible, violent crimes. Maybe we should also think about the amount of violent video games most boys and teenagers are playing sometimes for hours each day, and how so many movies/TV shows depict people using guns and violence.
Racism and ignorance can be found in all races, and bad experiences don’t make it okay for anyone to judge someone else based on the color of their skin or their ethnic background. I think it’s wrong for people like Al Sharpton to divide people based on race, and it’s also wrong for the bloggers on here to divide people that way.
I have been sad and upset about what happened to Eve, and I hope more will be done about the violence and guns that are rampant in our society. Losing a special person like her was not only a great loss to her family and friends, but also to the world.

I am white, live near Chapel Hill and have many friends and some of my the best ones I have are African American. I agree that the violent state of nature to the young black society is true. Not everyone thats black is like that but you can best bet when you see someone that has the gangster look they usually are not the greatest person you can choose to put yourself around. I feel that they have no one to look up to except the shitty ass rappers that think its cool to sell crack, shoot and rob people get fucked up and do something illegal then brag about it in a song. I live in Greensboro and every night if you watch the news there is a violent crime that happened shown on TV and almost always it is a African American. You can say its due to lack of money or hope but honestly if I was broke, homeless and on Heroin I highly doubt I would shoot someone in the head and hopefully you feel the same. Then why is it that African Americans so freely do these kind of things all the time? The whole gangster mentality glorifies this behavior and the music sales prove this is what all the people with the pants hanging off their asses think is cool. So yes white people keep your eyes open when you see thugs cause they will rob you, rape you, kill you then write a new rap song that everyone loves. And yes I feel if I open my mouth I am labeled a racist anymore in this country. Oh yea the old arguement that we did all this shit to them in the past should not hold any water its 2008 and whos doing the killing and enslaving with drugs now? Not the white people!

It is not proper to make the inappropriate ‘racist’ comments about blacks because too many black men commit crimes, including a lot of murder. There is a lot of black on black crime also, in fact, most of it is like that. To me it is not a racial issue but a cultural one. There are whites who have a similar culture to the black gang culture and commite violent crimes too. Unfortunately, the young black men commit at a much higher rate in relation to their national population. What is really disgusting and alarming is the large amount of black men in gangs and now the Hispanic gangs are overpowering them in LA and some other cities. There are sections in LA where the residents accept that there will be gunfire every night. Google the word “gangs”, etc. and see for yourself. I think a lot of the ‘racist’ comments you see are out of anger for these and other murders…that happen too often. As far as the ‘N” word lets not forget that black comedians and black gang members use that word all the time. Its only racist if a white uses it.

It’s easy for people to judge or blame people who are different from them, whether it be because they’re a different race, religion, background, or sexual orientation. People have been doing that for centuries, and it happens all over the world. Unfortunately I think that kind of ignorance has contributed to the violence around the world, and it isn’t going to solve anything.
Even though bad parenting is more common in black or low income homes, there are plenty of white and affluent homes where children are neglected, mentally or physically abused, or where there’s alcohol or drug abuse. More black/minority homes suffer from bad parenting because most of their parents and grandparents started out at the bottom and it’s very difficult to break the negative cycle. People tend to raise their kids the same way they were raised, whether it be in a single parent home or a home where there’s racism, ignorance, or abuse. Luckily there are some schools, organizations, and churches that focus on giving disadvantaged kids more encouragement, and trying to break the cycle of negative parenting. They help kids focus on school, self esteem, and becoming a good citizen, and many of them are successful in helping kids by giving them love and guidance. I think society needs more good schools and people like that, who can help kids break out of these negative cycles. One of the reasons kids join gangs is because they don’t feel connected to their family and the gang gives them a sense of belonging. I think if we can find more ways to strengthen families, for example with more parenting classes/parent support groups and after school programs, it will help reduce the violence in America. In my opinion the “take the law into your own hands” and “every man for himself” attitude that some people have doesn’t solve anything, and it just makes the problems worse. We also need more police on the streets, to give kids a chance to live in safer environments with less guns and drugs, and to give the police the support they need.
My white teenage son has a black friend who dresses in hoodies, doo rags and “cool” clothing, yet he has been a pleasure to know over the years and has been a good friend. He’s smart, helpful, and creative, and they often enjoy doing things like making their own movies, playing the guitar, taking nature hikes, etc. So even though many people stereotype teenagers by the way they dress or look, you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover.

From sea to shining sea in this country, there is an epidemic of crime, fed by a complete and utter lack of respect for human life. It is everywhere. It is committed by people of all races. But the gang problem is a sickness that is especially chronic, and it is indeed a largely minority based epidemic. It threatens the lives of everyone everywhere. And it simply must be stopped, because those of you with eyes and ears and brains must realize that our society is in the midst of a slow and dreadful decay. And it’s not racism, it’s truth. Of course people of all color are good, and also bad. But if we can’t even talk about the problem openly, we can never hope to fight back and win.
With the force of a an Iraq surge, our society MUST descend upon these agents of evil (and that is what they are, these ‘people’ have checked their humanity in and now hunt as animals among us) and eradicate them. And this is a common idea I hear on forums and talking with people, at the office, among friends and family, but not enough is being down on an official level. Because it has become an uphill battle, and orgs. such as the ACLU would have a field day ripping apart any such efforts. And yes, the problem is fueled by rap culture and the complacency of a public mostly just trying to get through their day. And yes,some people certainly know who did this, his face is plastered across the national news with near perfect clarity. His mother must know him. Or some school mates, or possibly some jail mates that want to turn a good deed.
The entire Black community should feel shame for this culture of silence. Stand up and fight back against the disease that kills not only your own future but the good of us all.
The recent media attention on these cases is poignant in that it shows how the light of the future of our country is so easily snuffed out by those who walk in darkness.
Where is the hope? Who among our leaders, I haven’t heard a peep about this from any Presidential candidates. What will it take, and who will have the courage to save us?

The ACLU is an organization that protects our rights as citizens and works to uphold the law and religious freedom in America, which I think is a good thing. They don’t think anyone should be above the law, no matter how rich, powerful, educated, or what religious group they come from, and they protect our basic rights and freedoms. We certainly need to do more about violent crime in our country, but I don’t think going on witch hunts or losing our civil liberties are good solutions.
I hope we are smart enough to solve the violence problem in our country without losing our freedom, laws, and individual rights. I think several political leaders/candidates have some solutions to crime, the economy, and education, and I agree with some of them. That not my name by the way and YES keep them open. You are way more likely to be hurt by someone living the lifestyle of a gandter than your average looking white person. My own 61 year old Uncle was jumped by 3 black males ages 16 to 18 last year at a gas station and was left for dead. They Broke his face ribs collarbone and fractured his skull all for a few dollars beating him within an inch of his life. He has to live in a home now and is almost a vegetable because of all this. These 3 asshole said they did it for the hell of it. I have had more shit stole from me by black folks than any other race. I used to live in the getto and would CONSTANTLY have my shit stole out the yard. I have been ripped off by tons of black people through the years for one thing or another and I am sure plenty of others have had the same experience. In school it was the same thing and the black guys did nothing but harass the white girls trying to fuck them and the talking shit to the white guys. All my life I have been called a satanist and people think I am bad for the way I look and that comes from all sides so I finally changed how I look and poof people have a different outllook towards me now. I think that so many commit these crimes bc they have no resources, no role models, no self esteem, live in drug and gang infested areas, are extremely poor, and have aint shit parents……..now if I were in this situation I would try to make connections with those in the outside world that are doing good in life instead of robbing someone or taking their life.
It really depends on your environment bc it shapes you–those living in bad neighborhoods and attending poor schools may be affected by the violent lyrics of some rap songs but many do not listen to the songs in the literal sense and just regard them as a good beat to dance to

ChiChi.. No, I don’t listen to the kind of music.. I listen to wbfc 1470 am it is a southern gospel station and no I do not let my girls listen to gangster music. They listen to soft rock and hip hop.
I teach my kids not to treat people of different skin different and to respect everyone. My girls have a myspace and 6 out of 10 kids on there are black. They don’t make a difference in the color of skin. I try to see what they listen and make sure that it is not violence and I go in their emails or instant messages and see what is going on, makes them mad but I tell them that it is my computer and I am paying the bills and if you don’t like it I can delete your account and they deal with it.
I think that some of the violence is started in childhood, whether you are black or white or purple. If you have alot of anger issues due to being poor or it could be peer pressue or drugs but color is not the issue, least not where I live. BUT each one of us know right from wrong whether taught that or not.

Most are out smoking weed trying to show off how much they have be it jewelery or rims acting like 50cent wannabes than helping and thats a statistic. I am in my 30s and not 1 white person I went to school with killed anyone. There has been at LEAST 10 black males that I went to school with that have killed someone and I mean were convicted of it too. And after my Uncle getting robbed and beaten till hes a vegetable how can I not keep my eyes open around these people? I would have to be a fool not to be nervous when I see a thugged out black guy coming up to me. They did this to themselves and it is crazy to think anyone who should think otherwise. It will be a long road for the African Americans to get themselves out of this place they have put themselves in. In the city I live 9 out of 10 black males are this way. I have 2 really good friends that are black one of I have known for 18 years and is my best friend I see on a daily basis and even they say they dont fit in with the whole thinking lifestyle of the thug blacks. I am horrified that the images of this guy has been blasted all over the media, and as yet, no one has stepped up to identify him. I am also horrified to hear of the gang element in the area that apparently has law enforcement in some kind of paralysis.
I have no sympathy for violent people…I don’t care what kind of background they come from. I have no desire to understand them or reach out to them. And that includes thugs of ALL COLORS, from the cretins who murdered James Byrd and Matthew Shepherd, to the killer of the Auburn student, to the killer(s) of Eve Carson. The guys that committed the mass killings on campuses…too bad they didn’t off themselves first before taking innocent lives.
It’s difficult to flush out sickos who operate solo. It’s difficult to prevent mass shootings by whackos. But gangs stick out like a sore thumbs, so I don’t understand why this element is allowed to fester.

It just turns out that Eve’s murder very well be. But the fact remains that most murders are usually same-race crimes. Breaking it down, over 90% of black murder victims were killed by other blacks, while over 90% of white murder victims were killed by other whites. Trans-racial murders are not common in the US, but are sensationalized when they do happen because of how provocative the situation is. And by the way I am the young black male voice this blog has been calling for! By the way racism affects more people than actual murders, by far.

Not all blacks are bad, but don’t the black people here realize the percentages of black males who do horrible things? Blacks make up a small percentage of our society, but a majority of people in jail. It’s a fact black people overall commit more violence/crime than white people. A black is MUCH more liekly to. Oh but because someones ancestors did something bad, it’s OK and there is an excuse for balck people to murder now. The blacks who are doing these horrible things now, have nothing to do with slavery, they grew up free with no segreation.

I think it’s ludicrous to say black people should be “ashamed” for the actions of a black person they don’t even know, or that it’s their responsibility to change or “do something” about black criminals, simply because they have the same color skin. Should white people be responsible for the white kids that have opened fire on campuses, or the mostly white corporate leaders who cheat and steal from people every day, or racist whites like Ann Coulter? I don’t think so. But I think it would help if EVERYONE tried to do more about crime, no matter what their face or background.
I think it’s great when black people take action and become positive role models for struggling black kids, and try to make things better in their communities. I know some black adults who are doing that. It’s very difficult to break a negative cycle, as anyone knows who has struggled to make a big change in their life, whether it be something like stop drinking or smoking, losing weight, or stop being abusive to their children. Sometimes these problems continue for generations in families. As I said before, people often raise their kids the same way they were raised, so breaking negative cycles (like single parent homes) is very difficult to do. But I think it can be done, maybe with more positive role models for kids, education about birth control, requiring more responsibility from the father’s, and providing kids with hope and inspiration for a different lifestyle.
From everything I’ve heard about Eve Carson, she was a positive person who believed in taking action to make the world a better place. She seemed to care about helping people, and improving the lives of others. I have been crying not only for her and her family, but also for the loss the world has suffered. I hope we can keep her memory alive by trying to make the world a better place for everyone.

Yes, I think twice when I am approached by a group of young black males dressed “thuggish”. Maybe they’ll rob or rape me, or more than likely, they will mind their business and keep going. I also think twice when I am approached by white males (of any age) dresses like skinheads or “goth”. I had mentioned several of the more “white” crimes in my post, but I didn’t go into more detail because my posts are already long! I’m glad that “just saying” went into more detail about some of the problems that exist in the white race too. There is a gun, violence and drug problem in all races across America, and it’s something that affects all of us. There is also a lot of neglect, ignorance and abuse that goes on in all walks of life, even in the more affluent and educated homes.
I agree that people who have to lump people into categories or put other people down are usually insecure and don’t really like themselves. I guess it temporarily makes some people feel good to point fingers and put other people down.
Anyway, I agree that those who point fingers should take a look in the mirror, and see what they can do to improve themselves, rather than judge entire races of people. I think some people aren’t wise enough to fully understand problems or be able to come up with solutions, so they try to look at the world simplistically and very “black and white” (no pun intended).

Many years ago in the 80s, another bright young woman was kidnapped from UNC-CH campus and raped by an African American man who killed her. She was out with a friend on a weekend night and he boldly drove up, kidnapped her while she was walking and drove off with her. She was missing for a fairly long time but was found dead. And they caught the black guy who did it.

This attitude has lead them nowhere for decades and I’ll bet most successful blacks agree. I come from a part of the country where *diversity* in schools has been a hot button issue. Black kids are given the same opportunity as others and yet the dropout rate continues to rise. Why is that? Even though “concerned” is singling out black people which I don’t like, I think they made some good points about why some kids get pregnant and about the effects of neglectful parenting. But it doesn’t just happen in any one race, and I know several white (and other ethnic groups) people who are having kids by more than one person without marriage. Some of them also need assistance, and don’t pay much attention to their kids.
An affluent white family near my sister has a teenage daughter who wore the “abstinence only” ring, and sure enough she got pregnant. Their neighborhood also had a white boy shoot his brother with one of the family guns. Crime, teen pregnancy, and drugs can be a problem with all ethnic groups, especially drug and alcohol use. I think it’s correct that it’s usually more of a social/economic problem than a race problem. Those who have less educated, ignorant, or drug using parents tend to do worse in school, etc. Also kids who spend hours a day in front of a TV or video game tend to get worse grades too. A lot of poor kids have almost no support system at home, and sometimes don’t have things like computers to do their homework. Luckily our kid’s schools have extra tutoring and assistance for anyone who needs it, and I’m proud that our town does a lot to help kids do well in school and in life.
The welfare system was changed for the better about 10 years ago, and it now requires that people go to work after a short period of time. It can help people get on their feet, but the recipients have to work towards being self-suffient. There are a lot of poor and struggling people in this country, who sometimes work more than one job while raising children, so not everyone who is in need is lazy or taking advantage. Actually there are plenty of rich people who take advantage of the system, by cheating the government and finding loopholes to not pay their taxes. We’re all paying for them too.
There has been so much generalizing on this blog. I guess it’s human nature to want to feel part of a group, gang, clan, or whatever you want to call it. Maybe that’s why rooting for a sports team is so popular. But what I don’t like is when people want to feel like their “group” is better than everyone else and that other groups are somehow inferior, whether it be religion, race, sexual orientation, or a person’s country. I wish more people took the time to put themselves in someone’s else’s shoes, and see that we’re all from the same human race.
And “concerned”, what makes you think you can speak for God?

I also want to add that even though kids raised in homes with less educated and poor parents usually don’t do as well in school, of course there are many exceptions to that rule. I know there are a lot of good parents who don’t have much education or money, but who give their kids love and support. There’s also many students who do well in school despite their parent’s educational background or ability to pay for things.
To me child abuse is a worse problem than lack of education or lack of money. But even though mentally or physically abused children often grow up to be angry, violent, unhappy, cruel, or sometimes criminal adults, there are many who are able to heal from their past and become mentally healthy. Child abuse is sad for the children who are being abused, and also sad for society.
I try not to judge someone based on their race, religion, sex, educational background, or whether their rich or poor. I think every person deserves to be judged for who they are inside, and what kind of person they decide they are going be, and not by their background. There are a lot of people who didn’t do well in school, but who have a lot of common sense, integrity, wisdom, and compassion. I respect those qualities a lot more than a college degree or wealth.

Billy, were you taught to judge people based on race in your home or by your peers/neighbors growing up? If so, then maybe you can understand how hard it is to change what you’ve been taught as a child/teenager. You and I watch a lot of the same news and live in the same world, yet we see some things so differently. I was taught by my parents and some teachers to try to make the world better by figuring out the cause and effect of problems and trying to solve them, rather than just blaming and seeing other people as lower than me (or evil).
When I see a child who is being neglected or abused (black, white, or whatever), I feel sorry for them and want to make their life better, not only for the child’s sake, but also because I know that they will more likely grow up and take their anger out on other innocent people.
I don’t think we should help people continue to live a negative lifestyle, but I believe in having more support for people who are trying to get off drugs, go back to school, or better their lives, and try to encourage more people to do that. I also believe we have to focus on children, and try to crack down on child abuse and neglect. I think good after-school programs for parents who have to work are one way to help, so the kids aren’t going home to an empty house with no guidance or support. Also I think schools should teach even more about honesty and respect, and give kids more guidance about how to study, etc.
Most of this should come from the home, but unfortunately it sometimes doesn’t, so schools and other positive role models like teachers, friends, neighbors, pastors, etc. can try to make a positive difference in the lives of children. Even if we can help just half of the kids from disadvantaged homes live better lives, that is worth the effort to me.

holy crap. if billy is claiming to be jewish, this is the most unlikely thing i’ve seen in a while. he seems like a complete neo-nazi psycho, and i would be terrified to come across him in person (i’m a white anglo “liberal” with a jewish husband). I don’t think i’ve seen such ignorant slurs spewed since the last issue of racist psychos put out by the southern poverty law center. As someone who used to live in chapel hill and has since moved to a much more racist town (jacksonville, fl), i’m sorry to see that the liberal center of nc that i miss so much has produced such racist people. i’m sorry that generational poverty is more likely to produce people who are more likely to commit crime, but one has to look at the overall systemic reasons for crime, not just the cultural ones. and i feel a loss that chapel hill does not seem to be the same fun, liberal, safe haven that it once was.

I walk around in the neighborhood, frequent establishments that cater almost exclusively to black people, and have never once felt threatened, despite the fact that black people here have historically, and to this day been treated abominably. HE has the courage to at least speak out about what is happening with African-American youth of today. Your points are well taken. If nothing else, we have opened a dialogue that may lead to seeing both sides. As Atticus Finch said in “To kill a mockingbird”, “If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”

I understand what Bill is saying, but when you said “HE has the courage to at least speak out about what is happening with African-American youth of today”, I want to add that those problems aren’t happening with ALL African-American youth, but unfortunately with a large percentage of them. The biggest factors that affect the way people live their lives is what kind of atmosphere they grew up in and their individual personality, and not about whether they’re black or white.
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books, and Atticus is a character I’ve always admired. The movie with Gregory Peck is wonderful too.
I like your comment about God… not only do we not know with certainty whether there’s a higher power or what form it’s in, but we also don’t know if it is a HE. I saw a funny comedy routine once where the person goes to see God, and God turns out to be a black woman! When you think about it, no one really knows for sure. I also don’t think anyone should try to speak for God (including Bill Cosby, LOL).

I just heard on the news that the judge for the Eve Carson case is making a plea for Chapel Hill and all nearby towns to pass anti-gang legislation. He said he wants it to help crack down on gangs, and also include ways to help prevent kids from joining gangs in the first place. He suggests naming the legislation after Eve.
I think this a great idea, and it is clearly needed. It seems like a nice and fitting way to keep Eve’s spirit alive because it would be helping people, which is something that seemed to be very important to her.

I watched Eve’s killer in handcuffs last night on Nancy Grace and I was so pissed! I didn’t expect to see any remorse from this fool, but neither did I expect him to look so smug. And then it hit me. This is what it’s all about to people like him. They had every intention on getting caught. They are heros in their gangs eyes. Eve was a pawn in their sick, twisted disgusting game. These 2 boys ARE animals. The total disregard for human life here is demonsterious. I hope they are killed quickly. They don’t even deserve a trial. I’m really curious what defense lawyer would be low enough to defend these 2. They killed 2 innocent people who had everything to live for because of an initiation?? 2 “dead men walking” please!!

The total disregard for human life is sickening and scary to me too. There are some people who are so emotionally damaged that they seem to have no conscience or regard for someone else’s life. I think we also live in a society where there are too many guns.
I just read about another case where a middle school boy in California shot a classmate in the head, because the classmate was gay and had asked him to be his Valentine. This case also made me cry, to think that a poor boy lost his life because he was gay and made someone else feel uncomfortable. He was shot in front of the other kids in the class, so I imagine all those kids will never be the same again. What the heck was a 14 year old doing with a gun? I sure wish there were less violent and sick people in the world.

I so agree with you on the less violent and sick people… I can’t imagine what that child was thinking to shoot someone for asking him to be his valentine.. So what if the little fella was gay.. He is still human. That is enough to make anyone with a heart cry and feel sorry for him. God bless his soul and his family.

Back to the crime itself, there were some facts I find puzzling that surrond this case:
1] Eve was invited by her roomates to go somewhere at 1:30 AM, 3h before she was found. Where could anybody be going at 1:30 on a week night in that town? I mean nothing is open.
2] the call about gunshots to police went in at 5:08 AM. That means she could have been out as early as 4:30AM. What was she doing out that early? Or, was her home broken into and she was abducted from it, forced to go with her killers to an ATM machine? What was the time and date on the first photo from the ATM machine? If so, why would her killers return her to her home neighborhood if they were going to kill her?
3] her car was found a block away from her house. Why would her killer bring it back? Why not burn it or ditch it?
4] was any evidence like finger prints for in the car? And does it link the suspects to it?
5] it was reported that someone dropped the ball in the Durham DA’s office and that both the suspects should have been in jail due to parole violations. Is this a result of a state of disarray in the DA’s office that has been present since the Nifong Duke rape case debacle and his ouster from office last year?

You raise some good questions, 007. I too am wondering what happened that night, and what poor Eve might have gone through. I’m wondering if they made her go with them to the ATM machine, then shot her in the street. It’s hard to believe how anyone could kill another person who wasn’t hurting them, and especially just for money. It sounds like the two criminals in this case are really sick, and don’t seem to have any conscience, compassion, or sense of right or wrong.
It can’t change Eve’s fate, but knowing what happened might help others be more cautious. I wonder why we haven’t heard details about what happened yet. Maybe they can’t disclose too much information for fear of hurting the case, or maybe they’re hoping to incriminate others who might have be involved.

Yes. These 2 were not supposed to be free. Someone did drop the ball, in a major way. And I do believe whoever it was, this person (or persons) should be held accountable. It’s just unacceptable that law abiding citizens like our murder victims, and OURSELVES, are made by lthe judicial system to have to live amongst murderers and rapists. That pisses me off every single time I think about it. Then they come with this bulls**t about their “rights”. These animals should have NO rights. How do you kill, maim, rape and torture people and then have the damn nerve to mention RIGHTS??? And your defense attorney seriously has your back?? I’m at a loss for words right now. This is very upsetting.

I think I know how you feel Shauncey, it makes me angry too knowing that those two disgusting young men should have been locked up long ago. Then Eve and that other poor Duke student might still be alive today. A lot of crime is committed by repeat offenders.
I know there are some people who commit crimes who are able to turn their lives around, and I think more should be done to encourage those who have a chance of changing and being productive citizens. But there are some criminals (especially the violent ones) who don’t have any chance of being rehabilitated, and should never be allowed back on the street.
Part of the problem is that in America we already have a huge amount of prisons per capita, and I recently heard that 1 in 100 people are in prison! Unfortunately more prisons are still needed and many are overflowing, and prisons are very expensive for taxpayers. Not giving people a fair trial, taking away our rights, or letting people take the law in their own hands (like it was in the wild west when there was a shoot out in the street almost every day) isn’t the right answer either. It would be worse to live in a country where the police can discriminate or abuse people without giving them a fair trial, or where people can make decisions about who lives or dies, based on little evidence or knowledge. There’s also accidental shootings every day from people reacting emotionally to situations. We are a democracy, and our rights as Americans need to be protected.
I think we need to work more on crime prevention, rather than keep reacting to crime by buying more guns, building more prisons, etc. There are a lot of problems that keep growing with each generation, like violence in the home, drug abuse, poverty, etc., and I think we need to focus more on ways to help people live more productive, positive lives. Statistics show that children who are abused often grow up to hurt others or suffer from depression, so to me preventing child abuse and child neglect is one of the most important things for this country to focus on. There is also so much violence in our media, which I think is contributing to the problem.
Also a lot of kids see their parents taking drugs and/or owning guns, so they might think that simple, quick solutions are the best way to deal with problems. Reducing the problems in our society takes more thought and requires more complex solutions. I wish more people were willing to think about long term results, rather than a quick-fix approach. Prevention doesn’t show results over night, but I think it’s the only way to truly change the high level of violence in our country.

Funny, I play Battlefield 2142, a very violent first person shooter game, I can kill with knives, hangun, assault rifles, shotgun, rocket lauchers, sniper rifles, tanks, APC, mines, orbital strikes(artillery fired from satelites, this is the future 2142 is the year), I play this game every day, and it never crossed my mind to actually go out and murder someone! It’s not the games, and all the other BS many of you mention, including racism, it is the erosion of family values! It is the gang culture that is breeding like a bunch of festering maggots, and the availability of guns people. Does it take a college degree to figure that out? I think not. Wake up and realize what is really behind this cowardly act! You have to understand what is actually happening before you can try to fix it. Peace Out and God Bless Eve Carson and her family and friends. We lost a very special person and she can NEVER be replaced. What an terrible event this was. As for the killers, show them no mercy. An eye for an eye. Only a much stronger deterrent and fast executions will help slow the growing tide of immoral persons behaving in this manner. Since we can’t seem to return to family values, only a very strong deterrent will be effective. And we should outlaw guns. They are evil, made for one thing, and we can’t trust anyone USA to have them.
It’s not worth even one life! Get rid of them, and gun homicides will go down. It will take some time, we can make this the unusual instead of the daily news. When I served as a Marine, we didn’t see the color of a person’s skin as being a factor. I saw men of every race go beyond the call of duty and risk their lives to help their fellow Marines. Some died doing it. A few couldn’t hack it and were sent packing. We found out real quick who could be relied on. There is only one color in the United States Marine Corps. Green!
