I think if Jesse James Hollywood was the one who ordered Nicholas Markowitz killing I think he should be put on Death Row. I have a son the same age and if that would have been my son I would like to have put all of those people involved in the murder in a room and torture them repeatedly or put them in prison with hardened criminals and let them do whatever they wanted to those scumbags.

My girlfriend used to hang out with him when he was going back and forth from here to brazil. I’m glad he’s in prison cause if he wasnt i’d probably beat the crap out of him. I hope they also catch his very smart father in the act, along with jesse’s younger brother. his dad’s is one of the biggest drug dealer’s around and jesse’s brother is following in his footsteps. Jesse’s also shot people before and used alot of people i know for a place to stay. The only reason everyone of his idot friends followed his words is because of fear of his father…jack hollywood is purely insane. thank god hes on trial..i just hope he atleast gets life….and hopefully jacks next.

Jesse James Hollywood killed Nicholas in order to avoid life in prison. He needs to be shown that we value human life in this country. That the killing of Nicholas Markowitz was so reprehnsoble that the only appropriate sentence would be that of death. May God be with the ones left behind after this horrible crime

I watched the moive Alpha Dog yesturday, and I couldn’t help to look up the real story. I hope everyone one of those idots get what they deserve. They are truly Insane individulas, how do you kidnapped a boy hang out with him and then decide “oh we have to kill you now” Not normal not human and they don’t have a heart. But the number one people behind all of this is their Parents. They need to do they’re job as Parents..

I have followed this case over the years as it is a high profile case through such programs as 48 hrs. Court TV, and NBC’S Dateline. I can’t identify the exact moment that the Markowitz Saga became personal for me, but I’ve grieved and mourned for this boy that I did not know, who was brutally taken from us too soon. I’ve been haunted by this heartbreaking story, by the images of the handsome youth with the kind face and innocent eyes. My heart hurts for his family, the ones who loved him.
I cannot express in words how glad I was to learn that Jesse James Hollywood had at last been apprehended by Authorities. I sincerely hope that he (Jesse James) unanimously recieves the Death Penalty for his crimes, that he is shown no more mercy or consideration than was shown to Nicholas Samuel Markowitz on that horrible August day in the year 2000 when they cruelly and needlessly took his life. He/they did not have to murder this innocent child, it was a heartless and cowardly thing to do. It is my understanding that his(Jesse’s) “beef” was with the older brother Ben Markowitz, so why hurt Nick? That is the question that truly angers me, and the fact that there were those who knew of Nick’s perdicament and did not come to his aid. There were adults present in some instances that did nothing, did not ask the necessary questions. Well, I hope that they all get what they deserve, because Nicholas Markowitz did not deserve to die the way that he did.

i too, saw “alpha dog” and couldn’t help but look up the real story. its sad to know that you can get so close to someone and call them a friend, then find out you get life for kidnapping him, and go along with killing him. didn’t they think that killing him also gets life? sometimes even death? one thing i would like to ask “was it worth it?” in the movie they showed timberlakes’ character asking “zack” if he just wanted to go to the store….he knew then that they were planning to kill him…why not just say “dude, i have to get you out of here, “johnny” wants you dead”? and i don’t understand why that one chick who thought it was wrong didn’t call the police herself? how wrong did you think it was and still say nothing? i wish peace for the markowitz family, and i hope the people responsible get exactaly whats coming to them, and for the witnesses who continued to party and hang out and say nothing, i hope you get whats coming to you as well.

You have to keep in mind Alpha Dog was a movie “based” on the story. Many of the senes and conversations were pure fiction.

I saw the movie too, just had to look and read up. Seeing the photos of the real life characters, it gives me such great pain to see how cruel and evil people can be and how they could have done something like that. My heart and my prayers go out to poor Nicholas his family. Everyone who was involved in this and did not do anything to save this young man do not deserve to ever see the light of day again. Reading some of the headlines I learned that some of the conspirators would someday be eligible parole. To me that is just sickening. If that was my boy, I don’t know how I would be able to restrain myself, I think I’d be waiting for those creeps if they ever were to get out. An eye for an eye…

I, too, watched the Alpha Dog movie. I’m from Brazil, and I was surprised to find out that Jesse James was caught by police in Brazil, where he was leading a normal life. It also hurt me so much to see Zack’s or Nick’s real picture. He looks like such a nice guy. I’m in shock. I wonder how his family is dealing with this movie coming out now.
Hope the kidnappers get what they deserve. I’ll pray for Nick’s soul tonight.

I, too, saw the movie Alpha Dog and still can’t fathom the ending. My husband and I just happened into the movie while waiting for Pursuit of Happyness to begin. Now I can’t get my mind off Nicholas Markowitz and his family. I am a fairly new mom of a son and it is incomprehensislbe to envsion that fate for him. I am in agreement that Jesse James Hollywood get the death penalty. That is the only way to prove to hardened criminals that murder will not be tolerated.
I keep going over and over in my mind all the different scenarios that came so close to Nick going home. IF ONLY he jumped on that bus when “Frankie” suggested it. IF ONLY he had asked one of the girls to call his parents. IF ONLY he had went for that ride offered by ” Frankie”. IF ONLY he hadn’t trusted “Frankie” and used his black belt in tae kwon doe to get away and ask the hikers for help!!!
TO THE FAMILY OF NICHOLAS MARKOWITZ I AM DEEPLY SORRY FOR YOUR PAIN AND THE LOSS OF A BEAUTIFUL BOY AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE. To his brother Ben, I hope you take this horrific circumstance and turn your life around. If you continue on the path that lead your brother to his fate then your disgracing your brother’s memory !

Here’s what I got from the movie. The kid, Nicholas, seemed to know that he was in trouble-but like he said ‘wanted to see where this path would lead’. Did he ultimately know he was going to die? I got from the movie, that yes, he did, but didn’t want to deal with that. It was the price he had to pay to have a ‘cool’ life. His other brother was going to kill his rival, so he would have known that these guys were capable of killing. Drug dealers are only 1 step away from the cleaners, ie. hitmen. Hitmen will kill anything or anyone-you pay the $$$, they’d clean their own family.
Asking the hikers for help would’ve solved nothing. You’d just have 2 dead hikers. Cleaners don’t leave behind ‘dirt’ (witnesses), which is strange that that guy did. Most hitmen that have been interviewed, justify what they do, buy saying that everyone they kill deserves it, they don’t decide who lives or dies. It shifts the ‘moral’ responsibility away from them. Hitmen who killed for the US government during the cold war have said this. I bet that was not easy to do in this case. Nic was just a pawn. Also, Johnny ‘truelove’ it turns out, may have had others executed as well. The lesson here, is that, drug users, are really only 1 or 2 steps away from ‘the cleaners’.
I favor the legalization of drugs, so that you’d have to go to a pharmacy to get the ‘heavy’ drugs, and that one would have to sign a waiver stating the risks, and possible long term damage. It would be confidential-but at least doctors would then know who was using them. This would dry up the money supply for drug dealers, and improve the health of drug users, and not make drug users feel like second class citizens.

I am not sure where you get the American Pie references from (and yes, it is just a movie, not real life), but none of the guys who killed Nicholas (who was in high school) were college guys (that I can remember). Jesse James Hollywood was a drug dealer and the others were his lackeys. American Pie references do not fit this story. Don’t just watch the movie, as it is not completely accurate. It is just a movie.

I saw the movie Alpha Dog today and like every other movie you see in the theaters, you see purely for entertainment purpose, I never intended to be so deeply saddened as i’am at this very moment by what I had seen. I have a huge respect for human life and I will always remember what happened to that poor child. God bless the Markowitz family, my prayers are with you. EYE FOR AN EYE!

i saw the alpha dog movie and if its in anyway similar to the true story then those guys are idiots. if jesse was really rich he wouldnt care about 1200 dollars as to go as far as to kidnap nick. or infact if they saw nick wasnt gonna say anything they shouldve just let him go and jesse and benjamin markowitz couldve settled something, what jesse james was to chicken shit to take an ass whooping from ben atleast then none of them would be in prison because sure they kidnapped him but they all hung out during the process if they just wouldve let it go i believe nick woudve not died and none of them would be in prison but since its otherwise they belong in there.

I had heard of the story before I had seen the movie, so I’d already known the ending..but it still didn’t make it any less horrible to watch. I hope and pray that anyone involved with this young, innocent boy’s murder is punished to the end of the world. I, myself used to be in that crowd, the drug-dealer with the party house, kids thinking they’re thugs and gangstas. But unlike with Hollywood, there is a line..and those I used to know involved in crime don’t cross it. It was a choice, a simple one, and he will forever pay for his decision.

This story is a mother’s worst nightmare. To see how invinsible all those boys thought they were, and if the parents in this movie were depicted correctly, they are just as much to blame! ( not Nicholas’ parents, the other boys). Smoking pot, and partying with your kids is not okay! Parent first, friend second. They allowed those boys to behave like they ruled the world, and were invinsible. I feel the worst for Nicholas’ mom, who did nothing but love her child and look out for him……very sad ending, and something that everyone should learn from!!!

I like everyone else just returned home from watching Alpha Dog. I went in knowing it was a true story and went in knowing that the ending wasn’t what u hope for..and still I cried as “Zack” pleaded for his life before the man so easily took it away. My heart has truly been touched by this boys tragic journey. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Nick. Who lost such a bright young man too soon. This story touched me so I can’t help myself but to look up more information on this case. I haven’t yet seen Nick’s picture and I just know my heart will drop when I do. I believe that Jesse Hollywood should die a painful death in front of his father…so that his father will realize what a monster he created. God Bless You Nick!

It’s sad to look at this story and to realize how easy Nick’s life could have been spared. Jesse James Hollywood is nothing more than a scared little punk kid. Not only did he get other people do his dirty work by murdering an innocent kid, he did it over petty money. He deserves the death penalty. He’s a no good, waste of space, coward. Hell with him!

I say alpha dog today, I didnt want to feel sad when the kid was shot, so I just thought to myself, who cares it’s just a movie. Then when I found it was based on true events, it sadden me a great deal. Some times I wonder if death is a gift from god, in this case I really hope so. My prayers go out to the Markowitz family and any other family that lost a young child. God bless the dead………

I seen the movie years ago and afterwards looked up the story. I was about 11 years old when this happened and I remembered hearing the story on amw about Jessie and them looking for him but didn’t remember the rest of the story. I have 2 children, little girls. But I can only imagine your pain. I am so sorry and I cry every time I read his story or watch the movie. Even tho it might not be exact as it happened, the story itself about your son is the part that breaks me down. Again I am so sorry for your loss. Wish I could of met him. He seems like to me, just by his pictures, that you would see him on a wedding magazine. I’m sure he would have been a great husband and father. Again I wish I could have met him and I’m so so sorry for your loss. He was a goodlooking young man, prayers for you and your family.

I know you have heard this 100 times after reading all these posts but I saw the movie alpha dog too, last week with a friend. I have never cried, during a movie, so hard in my life. My friend kept asking me if I was ok. It was as if it was happening to someone I was close to. I kept telling her that I probably wouldn’t have been so emotional if it wasn’t true. I told everyone I know to go see it because I know it will touch them too. When I told my mom how much it affected me, she has chosen not to see it, but asked me to tell her about it, I broke down in tears then too. I think after just telling my mom about it broke her heart. I know she wouldn’t be able to handle losing neither myself nor my 2 younger brothers. Anyway, for the past week all I could do is think about that movie. I looked up alpha dog and then found out “Zack’s” real name, almost everyday after that I looked up Nicholas Markowitz and would read a different article. Even though I would read almost the exact same story over and over I couldn’t help but to do it again and again. Every chance I got. And I constantly think “what is this world coming to?” I know this is off topic but in September 2005 I did the same thing with a friend of mine Jennifer McKaveney. I graduated with her in 2003 and in 2005 her own mother murdered her. I never had to experience a loss like that. Now I have 2 friends who were involved in a murder and did nothing to stop it. The one is in jail and the other on the run. Before seeing this movie I wasn’t sure about how I should feel about this situation. They are my friends. So now I wander, am I a bad person to honestly believe that they, my friends, disserve the fate that is headed their way? Anyway Susan Markowitz, though I am very late I would like to send my condolences out to you, the rest of the family and of course all of Nicholas’ close friends, mostly for you though. I am not a mother yet but I know it would be difficult to lose a child. I also want to say that I didn’t even know your son but I still feel that his story (movie) alpha dog affected me more then any other movie I have ever seen. I just couldn’t believe what happened to him. I am sorry so sorry for your loss.

I knew the Markowitz family briefly and I can tell you that I will NEVER watch “Alpha Dog” !. I think it a shame that if you click on some sights regarding this great loss, you will be “blogged” to Bruce Willis and “Sharon Stone” and others. They “hollywood’s so called celebrities” SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!! H O W C O U L D T H E Y . To: Susan and Jeff and the entire Markowitz family this is obviously a living nightmare and you must be in torment all over again with all the media hype. If only, if only they could feel your pain, I bet they would not think the money was worth it then. I am so frustrated by learning of the lattest about Susan that the only comfort I can tell myself is: “God forgive them for they know not what they’ve done”

To the person whose reply appears above mine – I totally disagree! Everyone should see ‘Alpha Dog’ & realize what degenerates like the young men & women portrayed in this movie will actually do to an innocent victim, like Nicholas Markowitz. These young people are not even human; they have no conscience or morals & EVERYONE that knew that Nicholas was being held should be put on death row. They should receive immediate death, w/ no appeals. This is a case of children with no supervision running wild in the streets. I was a big fan of Bruce Willis, but not anymore. How he could play a drug dealer and have such a cavalier attitude about hiding his son for so long is beyond me. The whole movie sickened me. The sluts, the drugs, the casual sex & and language of the kids portrayed in this movie is common place & these “poor little rich kids” should ALL get the death penalty. They had it all, and instead of choosing college & an education they sold & used drugs. My heart goes out to Nicholas’s parents & family. No one deserves to die like he did except for the players in this whole scenerio who never once called the police, even anonomously. Their parents should be proud of the trash they raised, that they called children. SHAME ON THE PARENTS! WHERE WERE THEY WHEN ALL THIS WAS GOING ON? First of all Lingy, I think you are so wrong about the movie Alpha Dog. Yes it is about a truly tragic event. Something I am positive the family and friends do not want to relive, but who knows it could change another child’s life. Open their eyes. Make them see how drugs and money aren’t worth the pain and suffering of another person or family. I am sorry that in order to possibly save one child’s life we have to lose another, but the point is it could save someone else. And how dear you say that anyone should be ashamed of themselves. All these people who saw this movie and wanted to know more, and are now pouring their hearts out to the family members and friends of this sweet, innocent boy who did nothing to deserve this kind of fate. You should be ashamed for making these people feel like they did something wrong. I would also like to say when I saw this movie I didn’t even know it was based on a true story till half way through when my friend told me. I NEVER want to see this movie again. It broke my heart, but I don’t regret seeing it, if it wasn’t for the movie I never would have known that something like this happened. I live in PA and I was only 15 when this accrued. I wasn’t interested in the news. I was too worried about the mall, shopping and my friends. Anyway for those of you who don’t listen to what some people are saying I hope you do see this movie. I hope it opens your eyes and makes you see that NO MONEY is worth someone’s LIFE. And as for this Bruce Willis issue, he is just another actor. If he didn’t play the roll then someone else would have. No matter who played this character you wouldn’t have like that character, but because Bruce is a big time actor, you have all probably seen at least one of his movies, he gets a bad rep. That’s not fair. America’s most Wanted interviews family, friends of people who lost a loved one, a wife, husband, child, mother, father, all these people are asked to relive a tragic event where they lost someone they loved. Then it’s reenacted by nameless actor and actresses. They play the man who kidnapped, raped and murdered the little girl next door and the wife who was poisoning her husband. Does anyone think badly of them? Charlize Theron was in the movie Monster, which was based on a true story, she played a woman who was a hooker and was raped and then went crazy and started murdering men. How many of you don’t like her as an actress now? You can’t let who these people play cause you to lost sight of the fact that they are good at their job. Who they play does not define who they are. They are not the characters that they play. Bruce Willis is not Jack Hollywood, he is a talented actor. They are all just actors. In America’s most Wanted case, they need these people. When people play these parts and we see it on TV that’s when it hits us the hardest. When we are facing this cold, harsh, but true tragic event, that’s when losers like Jesse James Hollywood are found. I want to apologize to anyone that I may have offended. I am a very passionate person and though I am open minded it’s hard for me not to state how I feel when I have been so touched by something. I can relate to this. I lost a close friend by the hands of another, her own mother. I know how it feels to see her senior picture on the news everyday. And think of the time I spent with her and her mother. I knew they had a bad relationship, but I never thought….. Anyone would be capable to do that to their child. I hope Susan understands that I only have good intentions and I hope she is holding up ok with all of this going on around her. RIP Nicholas Markowitz.

If this whole movie was right or close to what really went on it just pisses me off that all those people knew and didnt want to do anything about it cuz of some small dick fag would go after them and that he couldnt even handle shit himself and had to have his gay fuck buddy do the job. I am sitting here around 5 in the morning having just recently watched Alpha Dog and cannot fathom what that family had to go through.
I think it is obvious that many of us are having a tough time after watching the movie because we are seeing such dramatic effects.. We all can relate to the boy losing his virginity that night, or when he talked in the car ride to justin timberlake. Apparently, he was duct taped and bound for that car ride. It is so sad to think that this is a true story. I cant help but wonder how those girls felt, the ones who had become close to him, after they found out about his death? If he truly did hang out with them, they too must be feeling awful. In reading an article, one of the girl says that she and nick had takled about him escaping. How horrible must one feel to realize that you had a chance to help, but didnt.
As for one of the posts on this forum, I cannot imagine how one person can say that nick knew he was giong to die. You talk about his death so coldly in such a professional matter. Murder is not professional, this was a horrible crime and even thuogh I dont know nick and never have nor will, I cant help but grieve for his loss. His family didnt deserve this, nor did he. It is almost impossible to comprehend the hectic last few days of his life, the highs and lows and the ultimate end. I can say that i wish this world didnt have such crimes as these. Although I wouldnt have a movie to watch for an huor and a half one random night, this young boy who was loved dearly would still be alive. Alive. I hope that one day there is complete closure for this family and for those that knew and did not help out during this entire situation. Is it me or am getting really obsessed with this case? I just don’t understand how people who saw you grow up can kill you just like that. Supposedly, these guys all knew each other and were “best” friends thru school. I can not imagine myself or my close friend killing one of my relatives. You have to be a sick individual to do that. There must be something I can do to stop thinking of this movie, it is driving me nutz.

when i watched Alpha Dog i became almost obsessed with this case. I looked up everything on it. I almost cried when i read everything about it. Jesse James Hollywood is a sick basterd that deserves to have the Death Penalty for he did. To the Markowitz family im sooo sorry. Who ever said dont see Alpha Dog is WRONG!!!! Alpha Dog was a movie expressing how much this loss meant to everyone and how doing things like drugs and drinking will come back to haunt you in a way that you will never forget.

I had also just seen Alpha Dog as well, and i have to agree with Sam. I Feel so bad for the Markowitz family, i know this movie must hurt and bring back tears. This movie will also help parents and children in leading them in the right direction, with the right crowds and handle things in a different perspective. I hope that son-of-a-bitch gets the chair. Pleading not guilty, BULLSHIT. Then why the hell did he flee the country if he was innocent.

I saw Alpha Dog over the weekend and have been reading the true story online all afternoon. Cant concentrate at work now cos its on my mind constantly….poor Nick….my heart goes out to his family. Shocking story this is, but just a couple of points that have to, and WILL be takin into consideration.
JJ Hollywood did not kill Nick. His friend did, fair enough JJ ordered him to, but looking at it in a court of law, Hollywood is not a murderer in the 1st degree. He is guilty of kidnapping etc, but is not ,in the eyes of the law, a murderer.
Nick made no attempt to escape, at no point did he attempt to run away, and this is consistent with every statement given. The story says he stayed to see how things would pan out, not saying this is a cause to kill him, but he was not held against his will.
Everyone in here says how they feel for his parents and I 100% totally agree, but imagine if you were Jesse’s parents?? Is taking the life of one person, satisfactory to avenge the life of another. In a court room you all say yes, but do this on the street and you are as guilty as he is.
Making this clear, I do not in any way support or condone what happened, but as a Law student, there is always other view points on these situations

If you are a law student, then you know that anyone ordering the killing of another human being is just as guilty or more so than the one(s) who did it. If you don’t believe that, look at:
Pamela Smart (convicted of murdering her husband, got life where the actual murderers are able to get parole)
Stewart and Neil Woodman (Yom Kippur murders in CA–same state as the Markowitz murder–) both received life in prison sentences
Hi-Fi Murders – if I remember correctly from my death penalty class I believe one of these guys did not actually kill anyone, but participated in the robbery and torture of the victims, but he was executed also.
Those are just 3 examples to prove that even if you don’t actually pull the trigger you can be convicted of murder and even get the death penalty or life in p rison.

I saw the movie “Alpha Dog” and my first thoughts after watching it were like – what a crazy story – then I was shocked recognizing that it is based on a true story.
I’m confused about some things i read here, thats why i have to say this: from my point of view, the person who orders a killing is “more guilty” then the person who pulls the trigger.
I hope j.j. hollywood gets life-sentence!!!

hmmm the movie i do like the movie except for i cry through all of it..i dont understand when a 15 year old boy is sitting there begging for his life how u can shoot him i couldnt imagine scared that poor kid was and how his family feels..and for 1200 dollars his brother should feel horrible too i coudnt imagine..and what else i dont understand is how the charecter that was played by justin timberlake yea smeeed all nice and stuff in the movie and that he was the kids “boy” but i dont understand how he could sit there and say that while he was tieing him up to die and lie straight to his face its seriously one of the saddest things ever that happend i think i feel so bad for that family and hope those kids invloved with it dont stop thinking about it even for a second i hope it eats away at them..jerks

Susan, I’m very sorry for your loss. This is a terrible tragedy that could have been avoided. I just finished watching Alpha Dog and am finding myself caught up in your son’s true story. It pains me greatly to even try to imagine what you have and are going through. I have a young son myself whom I consider my entire world. I watch him grow and grow each day, and it makes me sick to my soul with grief that something like this could happen. May the support of your family and friends get you through…..my heart as well goes out to you and yours. May your son, Nick Markowitz, find peace.

Such a tragic movie that left me reminiscing…..
It’s been years, but seems liked the distance was just short like it was just recent. You can almost remember those few days when life was forever changed. I can say, I empathize the heart rentching aches as I have a story of my own. I do know that it’s the lenth of time that changes our emotions. Emotions for good, or emotions for bad. My heart goes our to the family. I have watched the movie and only hope that all these unfortunate youths who watch the movie would learn the price is not worth it. To Nick’s parents if they haven’t watched the show I would suggest NOT to watch it. keep their story of their own. The last thing they need is an influence for bad memories. Nick’s life may be short lived but his memories lives longer. Keep away from the words “if only” because it makes the healing take longer. For all those who add a blog, try not to be too judgmental about what price all those involved should pay because it’s not for us to decide. An innocent life was lost, let us help the family find closure. Give the family strength with love and memories of Nick. May the light continued to shine upon Nick, may he rest in peace.

I hope Ryan Hoyt is sitting on Death Row, reflecting back every minute of everyday in what he did. Murdering an innocent 15 year old boy, that did absolutely nothing wrong to deserve what he received. Hoyt had no prior record and did this to settle a $1k (give or take) amount owed to JJH. Makes me just as angry today as it did back in 2k. For people not familiar with this case, the Alpha Dog movie has brought new well deserved attention to this case and the life of Nick Markowitz thanks to the internet. His memory will live on and this case should serve as a lesson for those to think twice about who they become friends with and for what reasons. I’m glad JJH was finally caught after years on the run. In the end, nothing will change the fact of what really happened. My sincerest condolences to the Markowitz family. R.I.P Nick.

I saw Alpha Dog today…. Obviously it touched me as it is after 1AM and I am reading about Nick on the internet. Before seeing the movie I knew the background so I knew the ending. Still…I cried and actually could NOT even look at the DVD cover, because it made me feel so sick. This movie really disturbed me. Those kids were such bastards. Stupid bastards. They all deserve to die.

I watched Alpha Dog last weekend by myself & then again last nite with my 17 yr. old son and my fiancee. The past week I’ve been doing alot of research on this case. 1st let me say to the Markowitzs—my heart bleeds for you. 2nd this whole thing is such an obvious display of parents letting their kids run wild. Too much $$=too much excess. My son commented to me that I always know what’s up in his life. His friends what they’re doing etc. I make it my business. Susan tried to keep up with Nick–but where was Ryan’s & the rest of this “crews” parents? Why didn’t they have a handle on their kids? ANd why were these kids so influenced by JJ Hollywood? Because they were missing something at home. This film & ultimately, this case has blown me away. I pray that Nick is at peace and that JJ Hollywood gets what he deserves-the death penalty. I hope this movie opens PARENTS eyes. LIfe is harder & faster for our kids now & it’s OUR JOB to make sure our kids aren’t falling in to lifestyles like these. Susan, I can’t imagine your pain. Just know that you’re in my prayers and this story (hopefully) will make alot of people think.

I finished watching Alpha Dog last night and I must say this may be one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. I cannot get it out of my head. I also have been doing much research on the case today (while I am suppose to be working) The facts that have happened in this tragic event are haunting me. It terrifies me to do know that so many young adults can be so stupid and so naive. I am a Mother and I was outraged when I saw the lack of the Parental Guidance in the film. Jesse Hollywood himself had very questionable parental guidance and the rest of those kids just wanted to fit in a place where there own parents where no where to be found. In fact, it seems the only parent who actually gave a damn about what their kid was doing was Susan! And that hurts me even more! I think that every parent needs to see this movie. I just hope that Hollywood’s “crew” has learned the sad sad consequences of what being a follower is all about. Hollywood’s dad can’t get him out of this one. I hope he gets what he deserves. As far as the Markowitz family goes it is clear to me that Nick was his mothers Best Friend. My heart reaches out to her in a way I cannot describe.

I have followed this case since it started, way before Alpha Dog. It makes me sick that this happened, but even more that Jesse Rugge acted like “his boy” and even told him things would be ok, right before Nick was murdered. Very sick. I have all the information for Mr. Rugge and his residency in the Pleasant Valley State prison in California. I want it to be know that if he makes his parole after 7 years I will devote my life to making his life hell. I have nothing better to do. I am sick and tired of these punk bitches destroying the world with shady acts of violence and I can’t get this kid out of my head, it sickens me to the point of borderline crazy!!!!! I want to torture this fuck, take his teeth out with pliers, cut his toes off with a dull knife, ect.

I saw the movie and like the rest of you felt compelled to research this story to find out just how much was true. Sadly, just about everything in the movie happened for real, the only things that was changed was the names. I felt so bad after watching this movie, I couldn’t sleep or eat, my heart ached for all involved especially the Markowitz family. I don’t want to watch the movie again, however, this movie spreads awareness to the world because many people had no idea that this happened. By spreading this story like others have said, may help someone else. Now if I was the Markowitz family, no I wouldn’t want to see this movie, they have relived this tragedy over and over and that would just be too much. As far as the actors in the movie, if people are mad at Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone then I guess that means that they have done their jobs successfully. They have done such a good job playing these characters people have forgot that they are just acting and they are just characters in this movie. I don’t think they are trying to cash in on this (they are already rich) they are just doing their jobs as someone mentioned before. Watching the movie I guess its easy to forget what the real point is. Yeah its about dope, money, and noteriety, but the real point is the fact that this young man lost his life for nothing, 1200 dollars, an insurance scam, and a broken window. Its just really sad and makes you wonder why and how God can let things like this happen. I looked at the Nicholas Markowitz memorial website and it is just really sad how this ruined that family’s lives, and for what. This didn’t have to happen, they (Hollywood’s crew) had so many opportunities to change the outcome, but they didn’t for whatever reason. And I feel sorry for them too to a certain extent. Were they that intimidated by Hollywood and his Dad or did they just want the noteriety? That part I don’t understand. I read on another website that the crew looked up to Hollywood and were “lost” and afraid of losing the lifestyle they had grown accustomed to. He would give them all the drugs they wanted and let them stay at his house and eventually felt that they “owed” him or something and were in debt to him. Hollywood was also scared of Nicholas’s brother and viewed him as a threat. Hollywood used his money and drugs to control his friends, and I really don’t think they had the same intentions with Nicholas as Hollywood did. He knew what he was doing the rest were just misguided, impressionable, rich kids. That’s why they were so lax about telling people what was going on because they didn’t think it would escalate to what it did, it was a “joke” to them at first, they weren’t beefing with Nicholas’s brother. But at the same time you have to be your own person, and what’s good for someone else may not be good for you. They should have stood up to their beliefs and feelings and they could have easily refused to get involved or just took it upon themselves to put him on a bus. Hollywood took advantage and knew that he would have to use the flunky who would do anything for him to carry this out because he knew he would do it. He was a follower, they all were. That’s why I feel sorry for Jesse, William, and Graham. They didn’t think they were going to kill this kid, but at the same time, they could have changed the outcome because Hollywood wasn’t even there half the time. When Ryan Hoyt came to the hotel and told him what was about to happen, they knew it was wrong, if they would have just listened to their hearts Nicholas would still be here. Thats why I say to a certain extent I feel sorry for them because they could have stopped this. But now because they were not leaders and didn’t have enough heart to tell him no, there lives are ruined forever too. Hollywood didn’t care he was out for himself from the start or he would have done this himself. He didn’t try to help them get out of town, matter of fact, he was pointing the finger at them. He wasn’t their friend and they should really feel used and stupid for this. They should have seen that then, (I bet they see it now) they were stupid and will forever pay for this. My heart really goes out to Susan Markowitz. I haven’t had any children and have been trying and when I put myself in that situation I would have tried to commit suicide too. I have been reading posts and the only reason that I am posting anything is because I saw that Susan reads and has posted too. I just want to show my support to her and her family and let her know that I am praying for her and to let her know to keep praying and keep God close. Rememeber everything happens for a reason and we cannot question God. There has to be a greater purpose and reason for this. And it is also important to think of what Nicholas would want you to do. He would want you to be happy I’m sure. You have to keep going because you know thats what he would want for you. Talk to Nicholas, he can’t answer you, but I promise he is listening. i saw the movie alpha dog, and also looked up a lot of stuff about this case. im only 13 and if i can see how bad this was and the way these people like jesse jame hollywood are not on death row or at least being punished and put in jail, then what does that say about the safety about america and our countrys justice system……….. not very good…

There is another story that may or may develp for anyone who may know a thing or two about incarceration.
The fact that big brother Ben has a history of being in and out of jail, and the last I heard is serving time in the pen for a few years for whatever reason.
There are a lot of prisons in California, so dont get all worked up over what im gonna say.
But all those knuckleheads that are now serving life sentences are most definatley in general population exept the dipshit who pulled the trigger, whos on death row.
Ben is the only one in this deal who appears to be actually “HARD”, which means he’s got some connects on the inside. California likes to transfer prisoners often, its how they make money. So if you can imagine this.
If not Big Ben himself……someone affiliated with him is gonna run into one of these pussies on the inside, eventually. I mean there not going anywhere.
This shit aint over with yet. I garantee you Ben’s gonna find a way to fuck one of these guys up. Imagine if Ben and Jesse ended up on the same yard…………
Probably make a good sequel for all you alpha dog fanatics.

How in the hell do you really think that you will walk away from something like this and not get caught. That is the stupidist ting i have ever heard. So your soul is sold for what $1000 debt. Ryan needs to be put to death, I definatley agree there. Jesse deserve to be put to death also. I think that the other boys should definatley have the chance to be paroled cause they didn’t pull that trigger. They could have an ddidn’t. In the type of work I do I have had a couple of Jesse James Hollywoods working for me and have met theyre friends , and believe me they have many friends just like themselves . These kids think they are the toughest guys to walk the street , but in truth its all just a show , each friend wants to show his other friend how bad he is , most of these kids are little jits that weigh a buck-o-five and would get the snot beat out of them in a one on one fight .But they dont have anything going on but selling petty drugs and hanging out with eachother ,.. Jesse Hollywood went down the wrong path and didnt give real good thought in what he had his friends do . But I do believe kids dont come out bad kids , he should have never had so much freedom in life and why didnt the parents ask how his son with no job bought a house and two nice cars at such a young age . See ! that shows there was a problem with the parents and how this kid was brought up ..

After watching the movie, as most seem to have- Not being from California and unaware of this event- I had to look up the actual event details and seems to have more on the internet of the movie and not the real story or pictures of these criminals! I have two young boys myself and I couldn’t imagine this happening to any of them or their friends! What a shame and unbelievable how society and this world is becoming more tragic daily…As we become more desensitized to the murders & torture, war everything! If our people would start ralling together as we all did after 911 and begin praying for our world & all the people in government & have laws change and us- “we” all take responsibility to watch out for the children of this world and teach them tolerance and love- This world would be in a much better place. My heart and thoughts go out to this family and to the families of the convicted people involved with this crime…Take a long hard look at what you “could” have done and start being a part of a change…Pay it forward- Do good unto others now, be a part of a bigger transformation in our world.

Jesse James Hollywood and his crew bit off a little more than they could chew and realized that maybe they couldn’t handle what would happen in retaliation. They knew they would probably go to jail but they were more scared of what your brother would do to them for taking you. If only he could have found you before it was too late, something that probably haunts him to this day.

Honestly, I don’t know how to put my emotions into words. I watched Alpha Dog about two months ago not even knowing th basis of the story. I was aware it was based on true events but I did not expect the story to hit the way it did. I seriously hit the internet hare for the next week just reading articles on the true events. Seeing the pictures and going through the articles just made me sick to my stomcach! My heart, prayers, and deepest condolences go to the Markowitz family. The movie left me in complete AWwww!!! My heart was heavy for a couple of day and I didn’t even sleep well the night I watched the movie. Such a tragedy!!!
I hate cowards!! Everyone who contributed to this senseless tragedy is a coward.

Remember, they were all adults and able to make their own decisions. They must accept responsibility for their actions. I am sorry that you don’t feel that people need to do this. I watched the movie “Alpha Dog” today for the first time. I wasn’t aware of the story or what the end would be, but it certainly broke my heart. I couldn’t help but cry for poor Nick begging for his life. I was born the same year, same month, only four days earlier than Nick. I also have a baby boy of my own. I can not begin to imagine the pain of losing your own child. My deepest condolences to Susan!
I know there are no words that can help the pain go away. I hope that at least time may have helped you heal. This was a horrible tragedy! I am sure that one day you wil see your son Nick again. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you Markowitz family!

I watched the movie Alpha dog on Monday and I am left speechless and upset. I could not imagine what it is to lose a son, me being a mother myself. My heart goes out to his mother and father. I hope that you find peace one day and I hope you son is in peace as well. After knowing this you are in my thoughts.
I do know what it is to lose someone you love to violence and I see that Jesse is supposed have had his trial on april 1, 2008. I do hope he gets what he deserves.

i had just watched the movie last night and i had about an hour drive home today and all i could think about was that poor kid. for nick just to hangout with those guys for that long is a dumb idea even if you are beefing with your parents. though the kid seemed so innocent and was just looking to enjoy his life. the end really got to me as i knew this story and knew the kid would die but in the car ride where he is talking about how he is going to change his life i almost got choked up. when he talks about how he is going to change his life and be nice to his mom ect.. then they kill him. i if was in the same position as JT’s character i would of gotten that kid away i would of rather served life then have the kid who became friends with die. my heart goes out to the loved ones of nick i am sorry for what those monsters did to your son and that the capture of them never justifies any sort of punishment i too had lost a cousin from murder and that has made me very vengeful but remember what comes around goes around and that it all works itself out in the end

With all do respect of Nicholas markowitz and his family… I don’t believe Jesse James Hollywood should get the death penalty. I only say that because he did not physically act in the slaying of Nicholas. Sure he so called “ordered” the act being taken out, but Hoyt did not have to follow through with it. Hoyt pulled the trigger like it was like hunting an animal for him. I’ve read all the articles on this case and Hoyt is the REAL monster. Don’t get me wrong… EVERYONE who participated in this aweful and so sad incident apear to be heartless, souless, trash! But in the end Hoyt pulled the trigger and I believe he is the only one who should be put to death. Let the others live with the fact they could have prevented the loss of an innocent life. I hve 2 children myself and I honestly fear for the world they are up against when they get older, because stuff like this doesn’t only happen in California. i was and am a good friend of graham pressley’s and to this so many years later i still defend my friend in every way. i sat through 2 jury trials and heard the horrible things they had to talk about during that time and can still come out of it saying my friend graham would have never done anything they say unless under EXTREME DISTRESS and i hope one day the markowitz family will have peace in there heart. and we are all so glad jesse is finally behind bars because he is the true criminal and mastermind behind this unfortunate situation. just so you know whoever is reading this the people who love graham pressley always define him and his nature as a kind hearted loving person who if given a choice in the matter would NEVER harm a fly let alone a innocent young man with everything to live for. remember that fear causes many people to react in different ways so don’t judge a man until you have been in his shoes. from us in sb we love you and hope you are well.

Watching a movie produced by people who’ve read information and police reports and then forming opinion that they should be put to death is about as pointless as saying George Bush should be imprisoned for what he’s done. For one, they don’t have anything to do with each other, come on people! I’ve watched the movie as well and it truly is horrible what happened to that kid, but how many of us know exactly what happened? Look at the facts. Hollywood had a father deeply into the drug scene and he himself had a posse and was into the drug ring as well via his father. They kidnapped this kid Nicolas and he died because of what happened. Why not wait until the trial and hear everything there is to say before decided they all should burn. After a fair trial is done and he is found guilty for ordering the murder, then sure Hollywood should be put on Death Row and his father should be watched very carefully anyway until he slips up. If this is the man that raised Hollywood then I believe he should be just as much to blame for what happened as his son is. Parents should start having to take the blame in some ways for what their kids do, maybe we wouldn’t have so many asshat kids out there causing trouble. I for one know my kids are here at home and well taken care of. If it changes and they get outta line I put my foot in their butt. Rest in peace NM and my thoughts go to his family. I knew Graham Pressley from the California Youth Authority. His character in Alpha Dog was Keith Stratten (Vegas in Stolen Boy, book). Graham was a selfish and weak person who only thought of himself and his need to obtain marijuana. Graham had several points to consider when he chose or chose not to go along with the plan to kill the Nick. Graham knew that Jesse James Hollywood and his friends were his source to free drugs, and turning them in would have jeopardized all of it. He also chose his “friendship” with the hoodlums over the life of a 15-year-old boy. There was time for him to call 9-1-1 from the motel or any other location near the motel at the Lemon Inn. Graham chose to keep his mouth shut out of self-serving pride; and not fear as one would like to believe. He was very lucky to have only received a sentence as a juvenile and not as an adult. Another point, after examining the photos of Graham, I came to the conclusion that he was not entirely this small and scrawny person the lawyers wanted others to believe. Graham lost a lot of weight in jail and in the Youth Authority, but he certainly was not built like a pathetic and weak individual. Only his character was patheric and weak.

I believe everyone is correct. The Hollywood family is a disturbed family. Mixed up in drugs and violence. The father and his sons are out of their minds. He was pressured into binding Nick’s hands and mouth and had to watch as one of his child hood friends shot him. Although i feel bad, he still committed a crime. I saw the movie alpha dog for the first time yesterday….i had heard about it but never took the time to watch it…I honestly had no idea it was based on a true story…it was so upsetting to me that i had to look more into it….Its horrible what young kids will withstand just to feel like they fit in….I dont have any children myself but i have a nephew who is in his preteen years and it worries me that he would feel the need to fit into any group so badly that he would go to any lengths to fit in…This poor boy was kidnapped for something he had nothing to do with….was taken advantage of by these other young men…made to feel like he was their friend and then murdered…i dont understand it….I actually had my nephew watch the movie with me….i wanted him to know that the in crowd is not always the good crowd…most times they arent….i wanted him to see and understand what drugs can do to a persons life and how sometimes the innocent pay the price….my heart and prayers go out to the Markowitz family….im a firm believer in Karma….those guilty of this crime will get what they deserve…R.I.P Nicholas.

This unbelievable story leaves a lot of unsolved questions behind:
Jesse James Hollywood bought a house for 200.000 $ and sport cars, dealt with drugs and his parents, teachers and friends are supposed to know nothing about the dangerous games he played between drugs and criminality.
The police looks bad for not discovering that ring of youth drug dealers, they didn´t respond to the two 911 calls made after Nicks abduction.
No one wanted to get involved although they knew that Nick has been kidnapped againts his will, they have partially a responsiblity not to have saved Nicks life?
All this people seem to have no conscience!

i just watched alpha dog and thought it was a good movie but horrible i think nick had never deserved 2 die and that all the ppl that got sentenced should ALL have been sentenced 2 life no parole

I just watched alpha dog but ive watched it once before and i decided to look it up, the true story. and omg all of those guys deserve life in jail and jesse hollywood and the guy who killed him should die. thats so fucked up. and how he got away kills me it says he just last year got convicted which is bullshit. only my thoughts

I saw Alpha Dog yesterday and it truly left a wound in my heart that will never be healed, I’m about to turn 15 and like every 15-year old, i’ve always been curious about the drug world, now i am complete and utterly repulsed by it.
In the movie, i started crying from the moment that “Zack” was watching tv and justin timberlake (i don’t remember the name of the character) asked him if he could go and buy cigarrettes, because i knew that they were going to kill him. I don’t know how a person can be that stupid, i mean, if they had let him go, “Zack” was going to keep his mouth shut, he wasn’t going to say anything. Worst case scenario would have been what? 5 years in prision?? instead they just had to kill him, the only actors that i knew in that movie were justin timberlake and bruce willis, i will never look at them the same way.
i can’t believe how cruel this world is, and whoever is saying that people shouldn’t watch Alpha Dog, i strongly disagree, because it helped me see another part of life, put things in perspective, and i’m sure that if i hadn’t watch this movie, i would have definitely tried drugs at least one time in my future life, i’m a bit like nick markowitz, he didn’t run when he had the chance because he was curious, like me. If someone kidnaps me and gives me the chance to runaway, i will do it, i will run with my life.
Nicholas Markowitz, thanks for teaching me a lesson, rest in peace.

I was hoping they gave jesse james hollywood the death penalty… I have sons and I wish somebody would kill him in prison son of a bitch he is a product of his inviorment his pitiful ass father I hate him he made the hit on that boy and personally I would like for his jesse james hollywood family to feel how the markowitz family did… and as far as ryan holt he ain’t dead yet? The judge should of never gave him a trail when they caught him they should of been walking him to the leathal injection room… as far as the juvenile young people are easliy influenced but he knew the ordeal from jump street so I’m glad he served time… as fa as the individual who was takin nick to different people houses he should serve life with out parole… I hate all that had a part in what happen and hope they familys suffer for the rest of their lives!

People have to keep in mind Alpha Dog was a MOVIE. Many of the scenes, characters and conversations were created by writers and obviously misleading to some people. The movie was BASED on the story and easily 70 – 80 % of it was never actually spoken or happened.
