  1. I hope they throw the book at this couple! Why didn’t they just get outta the car?!? They had been caught!!! Why would you endanger another human beings life!?!? I went to school with Greg and we lost touch after school, but he was one of my best buds back then. He didn’t deserve this.

    • Rachel,

I agree! Shoplifting is such a minor offense, but now it turned into murder. And you watch, they will blame the victim. But it was THEIR actions that caused this. I have a feeling that the car was not moving fast or at all when he grabbed onto it, but they they sped up and he was afraid to let go. And James told Samantha to go, so he knew what he was doing and I think she did too.

  2. I know he was trying to do his job….but grabbing onto the car?? If I read that article correctly, that’s what he did. At that point it should have been left in the hands of the police. Of course I know hindsight is 20/20…and I realize he may have been caught up in the heat of the moment. I just wish that once they were in the car, that he hadn’t grabbed onto it…he would still be here today. It’s just a shame really, because what they stole wasn’t worth hanging onto the car, or his life…shame.

  3. I just want to clarify that I didn’t mean anything derogatory towards the victim. I was just saying it’s a shame that he somehow hung (or possibly got caught??) on the car.

And because that’s what caused his death…that was uneccessary and terrible….that’s all I was saying.

No disrespect intended. On the contrary, I wish he hadn’t done what he did…went as far as he did to try and stop the perps. They and the stolen merchandise weren’t worth it….that’s what I meant as well.

  4. i also agree but some are born with so much heart it over takes them. my deepest sympthy to his loved ones. MAG

  5. james was a good person not saying what he did was right but you dont know him so dont be so quick to judge.

    • Angel,

He was such a good person that he was stealing (which is breaking the law and we all know that good people steal to buy drugs) and he was the one who told Samantha to keep going, even though Greg was holding onto the truck. Somehow, this does not match what I have always heard about being a good person. So apparently dragging a person to their death is really a good thing to do, huh? Ask James Byrd’s family about that.

  6. I’m a loss prevention detective in the Saint Louis area and I can tell you that we get no support from anyone, with the exception of the police. Sears does not back LP detectives up nor does the general public. This is a senseless loss. Greg is gone and two shitbums get to cost us thousands of dollars for years of us taking care of them. It’s time for us to take our country back from thugs.

  7. Angel is right. You guys DON’T know him. What he did was wrong on so meny levels, but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. He just made a very bad choice. He should have stopped. He should have and I know that. James is a good person.

  8. James is an asshole. I can’t wait till he gets back to prison and the officers there beat the ever living shit out of him. He should spend the rest of his life eating thru a straw.

  9. he was only human, everybody makes mistakes.so many times people have did something they would regret later.Nothing that happened that day was right. and my respects to gregs family but james was a good person he just didnt always make the right choices.much love to angel and jimmy im always here for you

  10. I did not know James but i went to school with Sam and spent a lot of time with her everyday she was a good person and i don’t believe that she would have done something like this unless someone was encouraging it which from what Ive read that’s what happened im not excusing her in any way what she did was wrong in every way possible but i believe she was mixed up with someone that she shouldn’t have been mixed up with the sam i knew would have been smarter about the situation and pulled over and taken the heat for something as small as shoplifting.
