“I don’t know how many times I stabbed (Tate) and I don’t know why I stabbed her,” … “She kept begging and pleading and begging and pleading and I got sick of listening to it, so I stabbed her”
Susan Atkins, former follower of Charles Manson, died of brain cancer last night in a California prison. I know her last couple of years on earth have been full of pain from the cancer she had, I personally believe she was right where she belonged, sick or not. And I do not want people to forget why she was there. It is not that I am not a compassionate person. I really am. But I focus my love and compassion on the victims and their loved ones. Also, please remember that her original sentence was the death penalty. She should have been gone a long time ago. While it is nice that she personally changed while in prison, that does not mean she did not need to continue to pay for the choices she made. She made the choice to live a life that included criminal activity. She chose to kill people (and more than just Sharon Tate, too). She was very happy and proud of what she did afterwards, not caring about the consequences. Therefore, her conversion to a life of “Christianity” years after the fact do not make a difference to me. That is between her and her God. Right now, I see that justice has been served where she is concerned. May her victims families have a bit of peace today.

Killers die in prison all the time. I don’t understand why Atkin’s situation got so much attention. I went to school with two Manson followers– Pat Krenwinkle and Lynette Fromm. They were both oddballs in high school and it only took Charlie Manson two years to turn them into killers. Krenwinkle was particularly vicious and unrepentant.

It got so much attention because of the crime itself. Remember, it was one of the most high profile cases of the 20th Century. In fact, it was one of the crimes that got me into studying crime.

Well, I am not happy that she died, BUT I am glad her parole was denied. She got life in prison and that is how it ended.
I am sure she spent her life re-living the horror of her crimes. That is why I don’t believe in death penalty…living your crimes over and over I feel is the worst punishment you can have. Dying is the easy way out.

Thank God she is gone, less trash on Earth. I wonder if she ever thought about why she never met her son. Because it was pay back, she was punished by God. She killed Tate’s unborn baby and she lost her own baby. I hope she had a misearable life since the day she was jailed. I just don’t understand why her lawyer married her. Is he a moron to marry a killer?

Thank goodness this piece of garbage is dead. Now the State tax payers don’t have to pay to feed and clothe her and pay for her health care. I hope she rots in hell !!

She still got a fairer shake than any of her seven victims did. They got butchered without anyone being able to speak to them on why they should be spared. We see sick, old, and feeble inmates.
We forget what they were like in their prime.. when they brutally murdered their victims. She deserves no sympathy.

She was an evil person her performed an evil act. We have all done things that we are not proud of but somewhere along the lines we were forgiven for our indiscretion. She will not be rotting in hell. She was not the same person the day she died as she was the day she took those lives. We all change. We all evolve.

I agree with what mylifeofcrime wrote and thought it was very well written and thought out. I feel the same way about this situation. I am glad for her that she repented and came to understand the wrongness of her thinking on that fateful night. However, she was sentenced to life and that is what she should have paid. It is all very sad and a terrible waste for everyone involved.
