This is a cold-blooded killing and this man, Ricky Lee Blackwell, should get the death penalty. And don’t even bother to defend him. MULTIPLE witnesses pointed him out to police. He put this 8 year old girl in a head-lock and then shot her, and then shot her at least 3 more times while she was falling to the ground. Tell me, what 8 year old child deserves that? And all of this out of anger and jealousy that Heather’s father was dating Blackwell’s estranged wife. This is the perfect example of why we need the death penalty. Please explain to me why this innocent 8 year old girl deserved to be killed, and so heinously. And nor do I care if he just “snapped”. That is just simply not justifiable excuse for what he did. Truly if he just snapped, he would have shot Heather’s father instead. Not an innocent 8 year old child. He did that with pure intent. And I hope he pays for this with his own 
life. After all, he is NOT an innocent man. He has a long rap sheet according to police. Since he survived his poor attempt to kill himself, justice can be served.

I agree, this man deserves the death penalty. In no way could he ever justify or make me believe this was done because he ” snapped” or because he ” lost control”. I have a 2 1/2 year old princess, she is my life. My condolences go out to her father and mother and I do not know what they are going through and I do not want to know. this is an act of jealousy and cruelty, period, and there is no excuse and no quarter should be given. If this had happened to my girl, I would have hunted him like an animal and treated him in like manner, without the gun. My prayers to the family.

This man is getting the death penalty and I believe as well that it should be one of great pain. I hope the inmates at Spartanburg County Jail are giving him what he deserves till his day comes. I have met the Father of Brooke and he is a complete sweetheart. When he talked about his daughter, his face would just light up. I know right now he is in a great deal of hurt along with his gf. She loved that little girl so much as well. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as no one should have to deal with the death of their child.

To be fair, we don’t know yet what his sentence will be since this only happened a week ago and he has not been tried. And I cannot find where anything has been announced yet if they are even seeking it. But I hope that they do, as he DESERVES it. He is a true sociopath to have done this to such an innocent child, who had nothing to do with his real issues. And that is as nice as I can be about him.

I did see where the DA stated he was going after the death penalty in this case. I’m guessing because it was obviously premeditated. Premeditation=death penalty.

They served him last Thursday stating that they are seeking the death penalty. I would love this state to do one thing right for a change and end this man’s life with as much pain as he did with Brooke. There is no use for people like that. Maybe this hits me a little harder since I know her father and saw the love he has for that little girl, as any father would for their child. I am not sure where you are located so I am not sure how much of the news here in SC is being covered in other locations.

I just may not have read enough places or it was not posted when I looked. Is it a preliminary hearing today? Since it was only a week ago, it could not be the real trial. Even a speedy trial does not go that fast!
I am so glad they are seeking the death penalty. This case screams for it!
