Today is the day. The day to take out the trash. Of course, all of the anti-death penalty people and groups will be out in force. Of course, it is not for justice, but rather, to save the life of a killer, not a victim. Today, for them, the victims DO NOT matter one iota. And of course, those people do not care that the family and loved ones of the victims want this execution to take place. And what they must be going through with all of this publicity and attention placed on Medellin, rather than Jennifer and Elizabeth, where it should be. So please, when this exeuction happens (I believe Texas has their executions between 6pm – 7pm Central Time), please take a moment of silence for justice and for Jennifer and Elizabeth. And their familes and loved ones. Today’s execution is for justice. It is not about race or nationality.
JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED with this killer. Now, just need to have Peter Cantu’s sentence carried out and the girls and their loved ones will have justice.

The brutal and sadistic nature of the crime any the criminals makes the mode of execution seem trivial. It is a pity that we have abandoned hanging.
While not especially painful, the noose meant an ignominious end. After World War II, over a thousand war criminals (mostly Japanese Army personnel and a few Nazis) were hanged and a few begged (mostly unsuccessfully) for a firing squad, the penalty for a military offense rather than that of a traitor, murderer, or rapist.
Perhaps some public hangings might have a deterrent effect.

If you commit the crime in this country you should pay the price in this country (we are not tough enough). I’m not really for the death penalty but only in the most brutal and senseless crimes. Unfortunately, Jose M.’s crimes and those of his gang members fit my idea of who should receive the death penalty. I won’t be raising a glass this evening, because I still think that it’s a tragedy all around for Jose M.’s family and the families of the victims, but, he has to face the consequences of his actions. Medillin’s execution of sentence has been STAYED pending a ruling on yet another cert petition (writ of certiorari). I have no idea what is in the petition. I would think that it would be tossed out on procedural grounds. They are only supposed to get ONE and ONLY ONE habeas petition.

I loved when the spokesperson for Huntsville talked about what an “emotional” day it has been for him saying goodbye to his family, at least he had that luxury the girls sure didn’t. The idea that his death somehow brings back the already dead is preposterous. His death is called “JUSTICE”. Evey crime has a punishment. And there is a little saying called “the punishment fits the crime”. To condemn a man to death for stealing a candy bar would be wrong… but to condemn a man to death for a heinous crime such as rape and murder of not one, but two young girls… well, this punishment DOES fit the crime. What he and his “gang” did to those young, defenseless girls is horrific. In some ways, lethal injection is too easy. You say, we’re praising his death… I say we’re praising his justice!

You referred to his actions as a “mistake.” A mistake is adding 2 plus 2 and getting 5. He didn’t make a mistake. He made a choice. Not a split second reactive choice, a choice that he maintained for over an hour. Think of all the things you can do in a hour. At any given point, he could have changed his mind, he could have run to get help, he could have tried to talk his disgusting fellow gang members out of it. He could have pleaded to let the girls live at least. To call what he did a “mistake” is so disrespectful to the memories of these poor young women who were clearly in such physical and emotional pain before they died. Per his remorse, my guess is that you are confusing his own fear of death, with a feeling of remorse. He already demonstrated by bragging that he felt no remorse. You are not fit to be anyone’s mother.

This execution is a good thing and will save lives. The next time someone even thinks about committing such a horrific crime they will think back to this case and perhaps be deterred from doing something that will ultimately cost them their lives. As it was mentioned before, executing Jose is not a way to bring the girls back. Everyone knows that is impossible. It is justice. It is his punishment for participating in such a horrendous unspeakable act of violence. 15 years has been way too long. The only thing good about waiting so long is that he has had to think about what he did for this amount of time and look forward to his death. Unfortunately, he probably welcomed death last night. I’m willing to bet Jennifer and Elizabeth didn’t welcome theirs.

I am glad this case is opening American’s eyes. As all of you who support this execution know, every country is entitled to ITS OWN criminal justice! It is completely wrong to pressure other countries to give up punishing murderers and rapists just because they are foreign! They should be extradicted only if the victim is also the same nationality but this is only so the victim’s family can keep an eye.

The next time you hear about protests to free an Australian arrested for drug trafficking in Indonesia or Americans who gang-raped a little girl in Okinawa, remember how you feel about Elizabeth and Jennifer! “The gang members ran and grabbed Elizabeth and pulled her down the incline, off of the tracks. Testimony showed that Jenny had gotten free and could have run away but returned to Elizabeth when she cried out for Jenny to help her.
For the next hour or so, these beautiful, innocent young girls were subjected to the most brutal gang rapes that most of the investigating officers had ever encountered. The confessions of the gang members that were used at trial indicated that there was never less than 2 men on each of the girls at any one time and that the girls were repeatedly raped orally, anally and vaginally for the entire hour. One of the gang members later said during the brag session that by the time he got to one of the girls, “she was loose and sloppy.” One of the boys boasted of having ‘virgin blood’ on him.”

Your sympathy for the victims’ families and acknowledgement this was a horrible act means NOTHING. This criminals chose to commit two of the most heinous of acts possible- rape and murder – against two human beings. If you want to show sympathy towards Medellin that is your choice. But rest assured he is only remorseful because he was sentenced to death.
There is no excuse for this type of criminal act and death is the only fitting punishment. Anyone who chooses to commit these types of acts should expect nothing less.

I can not comprehend the horror that these families have endured because these monsters existed on this earth. To these families and this community, I say thank you.
