Tonight, police have arrested a suspect in the kidnapping/murder of 18 year old Kelsey Smith. Edwin Roy Hall, 26 of Olathe, KS, was arrested and will be charged with premediated first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping. Charges should be filed first thing Thursday morning and Hall should have his first court appearance either Thursday or Friday. It has been said that the prosecutor’s office is asking for $5 million bail. Let’s see if Edwin can post that! Right now there is a possibility of jurisdiction issues, I believe, as she was kidnapped in Kansas, but found in Missouri. Also, from what I have found, Kansas does have the death penalty and I believe Missouri does as well. I have not heard if they are seeking the death penalty or not. That may be a decision for a later time.

how many times does a young woman (or any woman for that matter) have to be abducted from a shopping mall parking lot before the public realizes that stores have employees that will escort you to your vehicle if you are there in the evening (when 99% of these cases occur) or during the day if some jobless weirdo has been stalking you – kelsey’s father is in law enforcement and surely he must have taught his daughter of the dangers of the world – or maybe she just thought (like most kids do) that “it can’t happen to them” – i have a 12 year old daughter and i am teaching her now what to do and what not to do so she will never become a victim! even if we go out to our local albertsons (in the small town where we live) someone walks us to our car if it’s at night (the store is right off the freeway, where the freaks can pull off from there drive and scope out an unsuspecting victim) the other thing i’m sure kelsey’s dad would have told her was to never go from point a to point b with the perpetrator (it’s highly unlikely that the creep/pervert/monster/freak/serial killer is going to stab or shoot you in the parking lot – their deal is to abduct the victim – take them to wherever – rape and kill them – god bless the spirit of kelsey smith and the devastated family she left behind…….

My thoughts and prayers go out to kelseys family and loved ones! The girl was out buying her boyfriend a graduation present while he was waiting for her at her house. I am sure the last thing she was thinking about was some sick freak was following her and about to kidnap her and kill her. She didnt do anything wrong! She was minding her own business about to go home to be w her loved ones. It happened in brood day light! The one who should be blamed is the one that kidnapped and took her life not her or her family! I am sure they r struggling enough of what ifs-but they couldnt have known what was to happen! Sweetness, don’t let them bully you. It is a tragic situation, a beautiful girl with nothing but future to look forward to and heart broken parents who will never heal. It is a parents worst nightmare BUT….he hasn’t been found guilty yet. If it was him then then I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest, if it wasn’t then he deserves a fair trial. Sweetness, I don’t know the ages of the people that posted in response to your post – I am an adult and the mother of a daughter a bit older than Kelsey, who resembles Kelsey. Kelsey’s abduction and death felt very frightening to me. This post will probably get me in trouble with the masses but I think that a lot of people who consider themselves Christians get really high and mighty in situations like this. This is the same mentality that propelled the Salem witch hunts. These are the same people that make me question Christianity as a faith. Real Christians don’t condemn people before all the facts are in and then when the facts are in they are charitable and gracious.
This is also a good time to point out that the Media has taken the MySpace page of Jacks and turned it into to something ridiculous. Those posts could’ve been authored by any kid with an absurd sense of humor. The line “sweet tortured soul” are the lyrics to a song. People need to stop allowing the media to shape the way that they think, give yourselves more credit folks, you have perfectly good brains of your own.
Not that anyone asked me but based on the information provided I believe that Edwin Hall or Jack may be Kelsey’s abductor, no disrespect intended, Sweetness. To date I don’t think that it has been reported that she was raped. There is a lot that the public does not know and for good reason. If he’s not the guy then the real guy is still out there and that is a frightening thought.
We all need to remember that this guy had a wife and child and they are not suspects. They are absolutely innocent and need everyones good thoughts. You can bet that they are suffering in a horrible way. Call off your witch hunt, let the professionals do their jobs. Lay off of Sweetness, she’s the kind of friend that everyone should have in their court.

You know how you can just tell a lot by someones eyes, to me they tell the truth, and I just do not see a freak, killer in his eyes. I do value your opinion and your right to it. I do not have a problem with that. I have a problem with the fact that you state as fact that Edwin is innocent when you do not even know him personally, just like the look in his eyes. You appear to have more concern and compassion for the accused rather than the victim and her family.
You say his life has been a let down, but how fair is that? What about Kelsey’s life? Wasn’t her life worth anything? And please remember, Edwin’s adoptive family did everything possible to help Edwin with his “problems” but he did not respond to help, he just got more violent as time went on. He has had more than one violent incident, too.
If he is innocent, then I hope that is discovered. However, all the evidence I have seen and heard has pointed to Edwin being the person who committed this heinous crime.
Please remember, Kelsey is the victim here. We should be caring about justice for her and her family.

I have no idea if you really know Edwin, but it does appear that you provide no reason to suggest that he is not involved in Kelsey’s abduction, assault, and death.

There was no denying it then it was evidence! It hurt me i thought we were close she had done it before me and has since She is on the run now! I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt too but look at the evidence-the video, his vehicle his background history. His adoptive family tried to help him and he received assault charges more than once.He was deemed a threat to his family and taken out of the home.HE WAS LOCKED UP FOR A FEW YEARS. There is no denying he had a rough life and he needs help but that does not justify kidnapping and murder if he indeed did it! If he didnt do it, then so be it but as of right now it doesnt look good for him! Okay, so check this out. I had a friend who was murdered by a man who is still free to this day. he was even found with my best friends cloths. He even admitted to me that had his cloths, and jewlery. Why is he still free, and nobody was convicted of this murder? I havent a clue, but it certainly hurts me to this day. i also had a firend, who wad suspected of killing this man, and she did not. i was only one who believed in her innocence, and she was. Now she is free, and scared of everything. Thanks for pointing that out. That is shocking to me about her being married before! It bothers me to think that someone like “sweetness” is so eager to get attention that she thinks going against popular belief is the only way to get it…Just doesn’t make sense to me.
Another thing that really bothers me is when I see news footage and they show that punk Edwin being escorted down the hall and he has such a pompous look on his face like he’s going to get away with what he did. Makes me wonder if he is responsible for Kara Kopetsky being missing also, the other teen missing from Belton, MO. In my opinion (yes that’s “opinion” Indigo and Sweetness) there is overwhelming evidence that points to this punk and lots of similarities between the two cases. I hope deep down that Kara is okay and that she wasn’t a victim of this punk and his evil ways like Kelsey was.

But it is apparent and the majority wins that the focus of this sight is on Kelsey not Hall. Most of us dont want to give him any more attention than he has already been given.This post is her chance to be heard-Just as u are so passionate to defend jack ass oops freudian slip my bad! So r we just as passionate for Kelsey and her loved ones. U say we should have compassion? Very well said Kat. Ok, so maybe I was a little harsh in telling Sweetness to go and play on the freeway. But Sweetness, you need to understand that loosing a person that you love in this manner is inconceiveable. I read true-crime almost everyday, and one reason why is so that I don’t become a victim one day at the hands of these people whom society sees as “normal”. You cannot imagine what Kelsey’s family is going thru. It takes more effort to defend this guy than it does to print a few kind words for Kelsey. All I’m saying is remember who the victim is here, and don’t glorify the suspect! Kelsey deserves more than that. So like “my life of crime” said, stop sounding like a “murder groupie”. Most killers do maintain their innocence through their trials and even after they have been found guilty of a crime. I do encourage you to seek mental help (maybe thats what you and jack have in common). It is not wise to befriend a suspected murder. Even if he did not kill her his actions lead to her demise. As a parent that would be enough for me to blow his brains out. God bless her family for keeping their faith in the judical system. I don’t think I could.

Sweetness…I am guessing perhaps 13 to 16 year age range. I am guessing dabbling in witchcraft (wicca), magic, and DARKNESS. I am guessing argumentative in the extreme, and BLIND AS A BAT apparently (both literally and figuratively speaking). Here in the good old USA-YES-we do have a right to a fair trial and are innocent in the eyes of the LAW until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. THEN there is the lesser CIVIL system, where we need only be proven guilty by a PREPONDERANCE of the EVIDENCE. Then, there is just good old real life, where we avaerage citizens take the pieces of the puzzle, and search and sleuth on our own, add it all up and come to our own conclusions. MY CONCLUSION? Edwin “Jack” Hall is a gutless, sadistic murderer who stalked, kidnapped and killed at least 1 innocent girl and LIKELY more. If you looked into him AT ALL-you would know all about his YAHOO alter ego-Captain Howdy and how he calls himself a cerial-killer there and OH-Captn Howdy is one of the characters from his other Fav STRANGELAND (from MY Space), and if you ever WATCHED a Clockwork Orange (his favorite movie, which by the way we could not even tolerate past 10 minutes it was so awful and violent) you would KNOW that something is not quite right about “JACK”. Add to this his creepy my space postings and his strange poetry, PLUS the FACTS-caught on video following Kelsey in the Target store, seen leaving the store straight ahead of her. Moments later she and her car are abducted and HIS truck is still there? Hmmm, then 10 minutes after her car reappears at the mall as VERY short distance away his truck FINALLY leaves the Target. Where oh where was Edwin Hall during those 2 hours? The answer is both heartbreaking and infuriating, as he was so OBVIOUSLY taking poor Kelsey to where he so callously disposed of her. Hmmm, his adoptive parents had 3 biological daughters, and he was charged with holding one of them at knife point and threatening her-a 15 year old daughter. I would imagine when began murdering innocent girls (who KNOWS how long ago) he was taking his revenge on his adopted sister who had robbed him of his home-in HIS sick and demented mind. Kara? God only knows, but it is NOT looking good there. I can only say that based on the evidence we have, the pictures I have seen, the video, and all the other evidence-that Edwin Hall is the man responsible for taking that sweet young lady out of this world, and it is my sincere hope that the jury that tries him will send him out in like manner for his crimes. GOD BLESS THE SMITH FAMILY, and have what mercy you see fit on the one who took Kelsey’s life from her.

Hi everyone, i’ve followed this story online every since Kelsey disappeared. I’m from Toronto Canada and I’ve read alot of the postings. I’m not exactly sure why i’ve taken a special interest in this case, maybe because she is so close to my daughter’s age. Hopefully, if Edwin Hall is found guilty, may he never find piece and if he is guilty (which by all accounts, it looks like he probably is) may he rot in hell and live out the rest of his life is misery. i knew jack personaly and dont think he would be capable of doing anything as described. i also understand that anyone is capable of anything. the thing that disturbs me though is the lack of evidence being reported by the media.(notice i said reported rather than existing.)
at this point i would like to know more than parking lot entrances and departures before i base a view to wether or not he is innocent.

what i pointed out is that there isnt any extensive report on what evidence they have against him.
because i knew him doesnt mean i wouldnt convict him.

Do you feel stupid now? Grow up, get an education and do society a favor and please do not breed. Really not trying to be mean but people like you breed people like Hall. I can’t believe you all had the balls to defend him. Just my opinion and like you I’m entitled to express them. Didn’t sound like there was a lack of evidence but rather a mountain of evidence against him. And do you really think that the DA would’ve filed charges without DNA evidence not to mention all the other evidence. His defense attorneys and Hall himself both had the look of “Oh Shit! We’re/I’m screwed!” the whole way through this process. The defense KNEW they couldn’t defend him, he had NO defense and his attorney as much as admitted that to the judge in court today. Again, I want to reinterate PLEASE DON’T BREED! The only compassion I have is for KELSEY and her family. I have no compassion for his wife or even his child. His child=another poor excuse of “I had a bad child hood. This one time my dad…” which equals another senseless murder years down the road. I know that’s harsh but I’m a realist, no rose colored glasses here!
