Please remember when leaving a comment on my blog that all comments are subject to the blog owners discretion. I do believe in freedom of speech, however, that right is not absolute. Here are the rules: 1 - Please remember the victim(s) first and foremost. Do not come here to comment only on the offender(s). My blog focuses on the victim(s). Do not glorify the killer(s). 2 - I will not tolerate hate filled speech, vulgar or derogatory remarks about a victim. I will remove comments that go against this. I will not remove comments just because they do not match my beliefs, in fact, I welcome them! However, that being said, I will remove those that I find offensive, argumentative just for the sake of starting an argument that does not add to the post, hate-filled speech, etc.
3 - Please remember to not use all CAPS or capitalize the beginning letter of every single word or every other word, or use IM/text abbreviations (except like LOL). Please have respect for other readers and type words out. Not everyone is into that and it is inappropriate here. [examples: "cuzn" "tha" "dat" and so many more] Learn proper English! You should have learned it in school.
4 - Your comments must be all in English, using proper English, too. No huge run-on sentences (use punctuation). Pretend you learned something in English class.
5 - I will also not allow Anonymous comments. This includes using anonymous, obviously fake email addresses (you@you.com, me@me.com, anonymous@yahoo.com, or fictional characters, etc.)
6 - ALL COMMENTS LEFT BY COMMENTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND THEIR OPINIONS. THEY DO NOT CONSTITUTE FACTS. NOR IS THE BLOG OWNER RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYONE'S OPINIONS OR FEELINGS. STATEMENTS MADE AS COMMENTS ARE OPINIONS, GIVEN FREELY BY THE COMMENTORS.
7 - You must be 18 years of age or older to comment.
If you have a question or problem with this, please feel free to email me (there is a link to my email above).

  4. This story has my attention. I read the People magazine article and found it very interesting. First, when Maggie heard a “scuffling sound” coming from her brother’s bedroom, why didn’t she go in there to investigate? Why go into the parents bedroom? Doesn’t make sense to me! Secondly, when she found her parents stabbed (with mother barely alive), did she scream? I’m sure that is the response anyone who have. And if she did scream, why didn’t the killers who were obviously attacking her brother at that time hear her and go after her? Why did she stand outside the house screaming? Why didn’t she go back inside and try to help her parents and brother?
This story is very interesting – just doesn’t make sense to me. If I were the police I would definately do a polygraph on this young lady. Life insurance policy, inheritance, etc.

  5. I am absolutly disgusted with Carmens reply to this article. I knew the entire Haines family including maggie. To be honest carmen you should not say anything of that sort unless you actually know maggie. It offends me that you would make such a comment. Have you ever been in the situation where you entire family is being brutally murdered right in front of your eyes? Doubtful, or else you probably would have a little more simpathy than it looks like. Next time you open your mouth think of the family members. You have absolutly no right to make a judgment on Maggie. To ever think that she would have someone come to her house to kill her family for money its preposterous. Next time be respectful of family instead of talking about them like they are some type of animal.

  6. RIP Mr, Mrs, and Kevin Haines.
    We miss you all

My prayers go out to Maggie Haines

  7. Rachael,
For some reason the links are not working. Was Maggie the sole survivor? Can you give me just a little insight. From what I gathered from your post,it sounded like her family was killed in front of her. True??

  8. God bless the whole Haines family.

  9. This is truly sickening. I saw my mom being murdered in 2006 and no, I didn’t scream. I went right into shock, my natural instinct was “fight or flight” so I ran and hid from the monster who was doing it. A lot of people judge things, just let things fly right out of their mouths with no thought. There’s a possibility Maggie Haines couldbe reading this, as I’ve read a lot of discussions about me and my family. It is the loss of empathy in the world that makes me even more sick then these brutal murders that happen every day.

    • Unfortunately, people seem to know exactly what they would do or how they would feel if these things happen to them. They don’t. It is so different for each person.

I am truly sorry for what you went thru. I hope that you are getting some kind of justice for what happened. I know it is not easy to deal with. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
