The search of the Grant home last night (actually the garage) turned up a torso, believed to be Tara Lynn Grant.
Investigators found what is believed to be the torso of a 34-year-old suburban wife and mother of two who disappeared last month and are seeking her husband as the suspect in her slaying, the Macomb County sheriff said Saturday. Sheriff Mark Hackel said the torso was found in the garage of the home in Macomb County’s Washington Township shared by Tara Grant and her husband, Stephen, following a search that began Friday night.
Since the police did not have any evidence to hold him during the search, Stephen Grant left the home and has not been seen since. His attorney, David Griem, who said last night:
Griem said he did not believe there was probable cause for a search.“When all is said and done, I’m going to shove that search warrant where the sun doesn’t shine,” Griem said.
Now he also believes that Stephen has committed suicide. (shades of Charles Stuart here)
Stephen Grant’s lawyer, David Griem, told The Associated Press on Saturday morning that he spoke twice with his client earlier in the day. He said he hoped to arrange for Grant to turn himself in to authorities. “He was suicidal,” Griem said. “I spent some significant period of time begging him to meet with me and reminding him of all the reasons why he had to live: the foremost being a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old who love him very much.”Griem said his client last was in the Detroit area, but he didn’t know exactly where.
(Sheriff Mark) Hackel said his office also was working with prosecutors to determine whether anyone misled investigators, and those people — who Hackel declined to identify — also could face charges in the case.
Stephen’s attorney has appeared to be quite hostile through all of this, making me wonder if he is one of the ones the police are talking about who may have misled investigators.
Hopefully there will be more news today. I know that my thoughts and prayers are with Tara’s family today.

My God! I doubted from the start he was innocent in the disappearance of his wife. How gruesome is this that he had her mutilated body on the property the whole time? Some of the other articles I have read indicate LE believes it is possible that Stephen Grant had help in either the murder or dismemberment of the body. I feel so sorry for his family for being duped into believing he had nothing to do with Tara’s disappearance. However, most of all I feel so bad for her children. I am going to make a guess on the motive – I think Tara decided to divorce him and told him she wanted a divorce and he killed her for that reason.

This is a prime example of why the State of Michigan NEEDS TO BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. This scum brutally murdered, dismembered, and methodically disposed of her body parts while her 4 and 6 year old were in the house. In addition, his attorney needs to be investigated. He hindered a possible murder investigation. If people believe he did not know his client had murdered his wife, I have some prime swamp land to sell you! There is a reason he would not let his client hand over the laptop computer. Where there is smoke there is fire. Kudos to Stephen Grant’s sister for cooperating with the police. Hopefully, they’ll just put him with the general public in jail and that will save us the expense of a trial and life incarceration.
How is it possible to leave a dead body part in a garage for 3 weeks without an odor permeating the house? Did he put it in a freezer or what? Also, just one look at his picture with the bug eyes (reminding me of the run-away bride) you can tell he’s capable of committing a crime.
David Griem should be ashamed of himself. He was cold hearted during his statements regarding Tara Grant, he was as cold hearted as her ‘tearful’ hubby. And trying to keep hubby off charges with ‘the search warrent isn’t valid’, and ‘Oh, too much press!”— he sounds like an attorney out to milk a case for all he could — and to heck a dead woman.
The press sure wasn’t showing a bugged eye Mr. Grant a few days ago.
Those poor children, in the house when dad killed mom, having to put up with media who did not have a clue, and an attorney for pop’s who cared nothing for their mother.
I hope the chidlren go to Tara’s family, if they care care for them.
Did anyone notice how Mr. Grant and his goofy next door neighbors tired to lay the blame on Tara. “She must have done something”… Mr. Grant… “She was gone to much”,
“She was having an affair…” anything to tear her down.
The Press, the Attorney Griem should all be ashamed of themselves. No bugged eye Mr. Grant photo’s were being showed before the announcement of Tara’s body.
We watched Griem yesterday in an interview, and found him completely disgusting!
I recently read statements and conversations between Stephen and his sister Alicia Standerfer….I was very surprised to hear Alicia say to Stephen when he spoke to her about Tara missing that “she could be in the ghetto of Detroit with her throat slit”…..now I am thinking ghetto or no ghetto…your brother is a crazy murderer who is going to hell….perhaps if they lived in the”ghetto of Detroit” her neighbors would have had a clue as to what was going on right under their noses.
