John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted television show on FOX, was born on this day in 1945. John Walsh’s son, 6 year old Adam, was kidnapped and murdered on July 27, 1981. His body was never recovered, although his head was found. No one was ever charged or prosecuted for his murder, although serial killer Ottis Toole was a prime suspect, who alledgedly confessed and recanted.

He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Center of Missing and Exploited Children.

I lived in Hollwood Fl, when this horrble tragedy occured, I also had a son his age, at the Davie Fl K-Mart I joined the Adam Walsh organization to try to help as much as I could. Being a dad myself I could not sit by and not do anything, Im so proud of John to turn his grief into something positive such as A.M.W. Keep up the fantastic work you do to put the scum away, whether it be life in prison or death, just keep getting them,

I ve read the book on your son and im so sorry you have to llive through that ordeal.I have a son myself and i don t think i would know what to do if anything ever happened to him.But it takes people like you to take the bad and turn it into good, and good you have done. keep up all the good work and i have the most respect for you cause the way i look at it , it an eye for an eye,I would make sure that my son s murdere would be put away for good.I have read one book called john walsh and its got a few stories in there that just make you cry and can t even finish the book. You keep going and make sure that all the cruel and un gratefull people that can take another persons life is put away for good.

    Hi John,

My heart goes out to you and your family for the lost of your beloved son Adam Walsh.

I have 3 children of my own under ages 6 and every day I watch the news seeing the evil of people. At this time in my life
it’s very hard for me to let my children go to the park with a lot of people and let them run around with out worrying if some stranger is going to snatch them up the minute they are out of our sights. My kids are very friendly and like running up to strangers and start taking with them. Their mother and I have to repeatedly tell them not to talk with strangers.

can you help me to solve this problem, is there a better way to teach our children about the dangers of strangers?

    Thank You,
    Fredrick

  9. Helena Says:

I hope that Otis Toole was the killer b/c if he wasn’t then Adams killer is still loose and they needs to be brought to justice.

    R.I.P. Adam Walsh

It was heartbreaking to watch him fall apart when his beloved son was murdered. The pain was intolerable for his family. John Walsh is my hero too. Love you man.

  13. William Carter Says:

I understand your loss. On July 28, 1990 my only sibbling (Matthew S. Carter) was fatally shot, while pumping gas into his truck, by a whacko wielding a shotgun. The case went unsolved for 6 years. We all thought we would go insane with the rage and frustration of not knowing. Finally someone called “silent witness” in 1996. The guy was caught because of his own big mouth. Case was cold however. He only ended up serving 9 years. Some justice eh?

I am happy for you to have some closure in your ordeal. I hope it closes some of the wounds.

    Sincerely,

    Bill Carter

  16. John Marlow Says:

I did not know of your terrible loss, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family. God in Heaven bless one and all and help you through this ongoing torment. I will pray for you to the Virgin Mary and know in my heart that Adam will be in the bosom of Our Lady, safe in her arms.

    John

  17. Denise Says:

Our prayers for the Walsh family. They finally received their closure that they so needed, and deserved. What a BEAUTIFUL FAMILY! May God continue to walk them through their path of healing. Adam was smiling today, and is awaiting his family in heaven.
